Electrician for internet/telephone socket [Zurich]

Good afternoon,

I've just joined Swisscom for an internet and telephone plan. After I connect the wires according to the instruction, I found that it doesn't work at all. Swisscom said I should contact an electrician to prepare the electrical installation by myself if I find any problem after the effective date of the connection.

It may be a stupid question but I'm just wondering what the electrical installation about and whom should I contact for this installation (property agency? or I need to take care of it by myself?). How much will it cost approximately?

Please give me advice on this and suggest an electrician at reasonable price...

Thanks!

Daphne

In my place, I had to pay for the electrician. But I had an understanding with the landlord that when I leave the place, this will be adjusted in the final rent

Hi, yes you will need a qualified electrician to connect the junction box in your building to your home socket connection. Definitely not a DIY job.

Swisscom should have a list of electricians within your postcode. You can ask them. When I relocated in December to my new place, they gave me a list of electricians based around my area, so that the call-out charges were not going to be so steep.

It cost me 85 CHF for a 15 minutes job.

Also, read these threads for the potential pitfalls. I found them incredibly helpful:

Thanks both. I'm unwilling to pay for it but sounds like I'm being trapped in this hidden cost as other people do.

I think I'll talk with landlord and try to bargain a share of the cost. At the end this is a facility of the apartment which will contribute to the next tenant.

I got a bill for 150CHF. It took him 1.5 hours apparently.

To activate the junction box in your main building to your socket upstairs?!

Having said that, I discovered that they charge for travelling time too. Something new for me here....

My Wife was at home and said he took about an hour and ten minutes. Then I guess travelling time was added.

He didn't even pick up little bits of cable he left on the floor. Cut my foot. If this was the US I'd have him sued

Oh and the gall of Swisscom getting the customers to pay to expand their network is lost on me.
