Does it sound reasonable to have 30 people after one flat?

or is the woman who is working for us talking herself up. We are moving to Zug in August for my husband to start work. The agent assigned to us seems really nice, friendly, approachable and available. She put one flat forward to us and we are keen to secure it. She told us that there were thirty parties who have expressed an interest. I think it is average price in an average block so it's not special. But 30 people?

Yep. An average block at an average price will average 30 interested parties. We advertised a below-average flat and got 70 replies to a box number ad...

Re: Does it sound reasonable to have 30 people after one flat?

[In Zurich...]

We heard from the lady above us that she applied for our flat and was told not to bother as they'd receive about 200 applications.

I'm currently looking around again and have had the opportunity to queue up up to 40mins to view a flat. (I then left without viewing it. It also didn't help that the neighbour below the apartment kept threatening us in the queue with the police because we were "trespassing".)

Oh the joys of looking for an apartment in Zurich. That reminds me of why I've never moved since I arrived here. If it makes you feel better, I hear it's worse in Geneva (though I doubt you'd get the tresspassing threat though).

Till you see the toilet in a corner of the living room and are told you can "hide" it with a panel (like these fancy chinese walls), you ain't seen nothing.

Hey, you know, you can make a toilet into a really nice feature! Why hide it behind a screen!

If you time it right, you could eat your dinner while watching telly and pooing.

Well, we got the good news, we are the chosen people. How blessed we feel and hopefully no toilet in the corner!

Re: Does it sound reasonable to have 30 people after one flat?

I remember going to look at an apartment in Zürich during the great shortage of 1988. The shower was in a cubicle in the corner of the kitchen.
The lady who was "inspecting me" made it quite clear that she didn't like the idea of single women having gentlemen visiting. I'd got to the end of my tether with the inhumane vetting system, so i looked her in the eyes and asked her "have you ever had an orgasm"?
Needless to say i didn't get the extortionately priced dump, but it really made me feel better.

Re: Does it sound reasonable to have 30 people after one flat?

There are plenty of flats 20 min outside of Zurich centrum. Zug is probably popular because of the tax situation, but if you make less than ten trillion a day, then you are better off by lake Zurich.

Re: Does it sound reasonable to have 30 people after one flat?

We've not had anywhere near 30 calls....We have a nice, but older house to rent in Baden, it's a 4.5 room for 2,300 per month, plus NK...even though the ad has been on homegate and there is hardly anything available in Baden, particularly if you have pets....so things must be very different in Kt. Aargau than in Zug or Zurich. I placed an ad here, as well, in case anyone is curious. We also had our pick of several houses....and the owners only had a few interested parties for each. So I guess you can afford to be picky out here....
