Re: Why is it so complicated to find accommodation?

Be careful of scams. There are plenty of people who have been ripped of here in Geneva by people pretending to be landlords. You get shown a room/apartment and then get asked for a cash deposit which you wave goodbye to as soon as you hand it over, because you never see that person again.

Let as many people know that you are looking for a room. Many of the Migros supermarkets have a notice board where people advertise privately (rooms, services, products). You can post an ad on these.

Visit local pubs where expats hang out and get the word out that you are looking.

Sign up to Glocals.com and even Worldradio.ch and post ads on the classifieds that you are looking. Even though these sites are primarily Geneva-focused, there is always a chance that someone might have something to offer you.

Best of luck! keep on pushing and you will come right!

Just needed to vent a bit about this topic, and this thread seemed like the right place.

I was living with my boyfriend (for whom I changed country, left my friends and family etc) and he broke up with me out of the blue for a bit of a crap reason, to be honest. Anyway, I therefore had to find somewhere new to live.

I've been looking for well over a month now and after constant rejection, I'm reaching a point now where I'm really not coping very well. I've seen several flats where the tenants have said it would be ready on a certain date and, weeks later, haven't even handed in their notice. I visited one of them about four weeks ago, she said she was moving out on the 15th March and when I rang the agency on Friday they said she still hadn't handed in her notice. Then a couple of days ago, I started to see adverts online for the flat saying "Urgent - to let as soon as possible". Why create MORE competition when I'm sure there are plenty of viable candidates still waiting to hear? So I've been trying to contact the woman in charge of this particular property, and it seems impossible to actually get through to her. I feel like I'm on the brink of murdering someone (probably an estate agent, or a tenant who feels like handing in their notice is optional). I'm getting pretty desperate, I'm miserable and frankly, I think my mental health is really suffering at the moment.

Phew. That feels marginally better, although a spot of violence would probably do the job.
what? how did i miss this? so basically you're saying you're back on the market? luckily, ouchboy isn't around these days

That really wasn't the point of the post. I would have written a whole separate post about how certain men are complete dickheads if I'd wanted to!

Sure can - I imagine I'll be spending the 1st packing all my stuff and will need breaks throughout the day. I'll write a note in my diary.
