where to buy firewoods???

Hello,

I just moved to an apartment that has a fireplace but I have no idea where to buy firewood. I know migros and coop sell but I ma sure there will be other better options...does any of you knows firewood sellers? What are the prices? I am living in Zurich affoltern but if necessary (and cheaper) i can pick them up from another location.

Many thanks!!!

Re: where to buy firewoods???

search your locality for "brennholz". But to get savings, you will have to buy slightly larger amounts....

Re: where to buy firewoods???

Many farms have stocks they might sell.

Commercialy they use the measure "Ster" here,
basically a cubic meter of cut and stacked wood:

Ein Ster Holz ist ein mal ein Meter gesetztes Holz
wobei es auch kleine Zwischenräume gibt. Auf einen
Fläche ausgelegt ist es 1 x 1 mtr + 1 mtr hoch

Re: where to buy firewoods???

I suggest Volg

The nearest from Affoltern is Regensdorf or Wallisellen.

Maybe you want to call them first, if they have any at all.

Filialen im Kartenausschnitt

Volg Regensdorf 1
Dorfstrasse 140
8105 Regensdorf 1
Tel. 044 840 31 66
Fax 044 840 32 61

Volg Wallisellen
Riedenerstrasse 81
8304 Wallisellen
Tel. 044 830 33 08
Fax 044 830 33 08

Local farmers are another option - they also sell them.

Google terms like Chemineeholz or Brennholz.

Re: where to buy firewoods???

Landi has a good selection. You can find the nearest one on their website. Here is a list of their firewood etc.
http://www.landi.ch/Laden/deu/sortim...ined_undefined

15Kg SFr 8.95

As you are in an apartment I would suggest a "ster" which you might see advertised by farmers etc is too big unless you have lots of dry storage space somewhere, although would likely be much cheaper per Kg.

You could also try Jumbo or Co-op DIY in Affoltern...

If the other apartments have fireplaces, you might ask the neighbours where they bought their wood. It is possible someone may want to purchase together and then you can share the delivery costs. Just a thought.

Most gas stations also stock firewood.

Re: where to buy firewoods???

Very good experience with Frey Chemineeholz in Affoltern. 20 kg Buchenholz is packed in a paper bag, no dirt. Dried and ready to use.
