Any recommendations for moving companies in Zurich area?

Hi everyone!

I will be moving soon within Zurich - just a to different apartment.

Could anyone recommend a moving company? I found some threads on EF on this topic but they seem a little outdated. I would rather get a quote for the whole move - three rooms - than have them quote an hourly rate. I have heard horror stories about movers really taking their time if they are paid hourly.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

Hi

Yeah you can try cheap move Zurich....you may have seen some old threads, they are just two guys who come and move boxes. They do it very fast and efficiently - its like a man and van deal and if you would like the move insured you can go privately through Helvetia. We have used them for three moves and been happy with price/quality.

Best with it

Re: Any recommendations for moving companies in Zurich area?

Hi,

We recently moved from ZH to SZ, and looked at a lot of moving companies.

I also checked out some other recommendations here on EF, and came across Alfa Transporte - http://www.alfa-transporte.ch/e_home.html. They offer moving and cleaning services.

We contacted them to discuss what we had to move, and they gave us a fixed price for the moving (with a cost-ceiling) and an all-in price for the cleaning with a hand-over guarantee (which means that they'll be there during the hand-over and clean anything that was missed).

The move took 10 hours in total. 4 men in 2 vans arrived to move us, and I have to say that they were very professional and careful with our things.

The cleaning was also top notch, with a small army of cleaning ladies arriving at our old place (must of been 6-7 of them with a supervisor).

I'd have no reservations in recommending them. I'd certainly use them again.

Cheers,

Phil.

Re: Any recommendations for moving companies in Zurich area?

Here is a list of moving companies from Homegate website...

http://www.homegate.ch/homegate/arti...ault&a=default

If your German is half decent try this site, where you fill in all your details and get quotes from different companies at the click of a button (well they'll email their quote to you but you only have to fill in one form). Some of them also do cleaning but you have to ask for that separately.

We're moving at the end of the month and I'm not looking forward to the packing and removal part

Hi,
We moved 2 years ago and used Fankhauser. They were very quick but needed constant supervision. They did the job though without any breakages and their charges were reasonable. I would have gone for a smaller cheaper operation, but you need to check and double check their insurance cover re damage as this is notalways what one would expect.

Has anybody used AllMove? Theirs was by far the least expensive quotation, with a fixed ceiling, and the accompanying cleaning quotation was also quite competitive. I am just a bit nervous about using a company sight unseen.

Many thanks if anyone can offer a word.

Re: Any recommendations for moving companies in Zurich area?

We've used Studentmove.ch a few years ago - they provide good value for money. If you don't have too much to move, say up to about 20m3, and can arrange some friends to help out, then this is a very economic option.

I received a good offer from Total Umzüge (Seefeldstrasse): a big 38m3 truck with 3 men for only 179.- per hour.

As a general rule of thumb some companies calculate as follows: for each room one hour labour. For example a 3.5 Zimmer-Wohnung about 3.5 hours.

This website, Umzug Offerten, saved me a lot of time: you fill in a few basic details about your move and you get proposals back which you can then easily compare.
I got quotes back from Total Umzüge, Speedservice, Allmove, WALO, Hartmann and a few more. Then by having a look at their website you can create a pretty good impression of the company (eg the type of trucks they have etc etc). Good luck!
This user would like to thank Vince for this useful post:

Re: Any recommendations for moving companies in Zurich area?

Jus to share the name of an awesome company we had last weekend. Kaylan was awesome moving everything. The cost was the cheapest I've found for 2 guys and a 30m3 van for CHF 130.- an hour. The guys carried our massive sofa and bits of furniture up 3 flights of stairs with no complaints when they were too big for the lift. They were quick and efficient but also very careful of our stuff.

We also had the cleaning with them for the handover. Thanks to them we're getting our deposit back with zero incidents. Highly recommended

Re: Any recommendations for moving companies in Zurich area?

Hi,

Be very careful going cheapo on the moving.

If you have expensive forniture these cheap moving "companies" can easily leave you with damaged forniture and make expensive damages to the old and new apartments/houses and this will easily offset any possible saving.

I recently had a very bad experience with a guy bringing in a "moving company" two guys and a rented Van. They damaged his new Sofa and left the apartment damaged as well.

I'd really recommend you don't risk it just to save a few hundred bucks. Get a proper professional company with covered insurance etc and don't hire noobs for that.

I used Relaax Home Services to move some furniture today and Nick was excellent; on time, polite (he's a pom), strong!, huge van, all the equip you need to take furniture downstairs, and as soon as I saw his ladder I asked him to put some lights up for me for a few extra bucks. He was very efficient and a nice bloke too. Highly recommend.

Re: Any recommendations for moving companies in Zurich area?

Alfa Transporte appears good from their pricing and the feedback posted. I've had a very positive experience with Kaylan who are also pretty low cost @ CHF 130 for 2-men per hour (incl. van and kms.).
The guys to avoid in most cases: Milchbuck Umzuege. They're expensive and slow (whether deliberately I can't say for sure, the guys were kinda old). CHF 200 per hour for 2-men and 40m3 van (fancy van with motor lift, temperature control etc.), they billed their break time, they billed the travel (should've taken 30-45 mins.), they didn't bring power tools and spent time using manual tools (apparently power tools can damage furniture, but then a bad workman blames his tools), and were pretty darn slow (maybe the guys are too old to be in the business). Total bill to move a 1.5 room apartment with dismantling and assembling 2 pieces of furniture (large wardrobe of 2.35mx2.35mx70cm, 2mx2m double bed) + 20 cartons (about 20 kg each tops) + 2 double-seater sofas, 2 tables etc. was CHF 1,400 and they billed 7 hours.
They might be good for special, long-distance moves but not for your standard moves with regular household articles. Avoid these guys.

I have recently received a few PMs asking for a follow-up to this, so I thought I would check back in.

We did end up going with AllMove in the end. The fixed ceiling I negotiated was key--it would have been significantly more expensive than the quotation, because they only had one worker putting together the furniture, and we have too many Ikea wardrobes.

The workers were really lovely guys, and we enjoyed working with them all day. They dropped off all the boxes we needed (repeatedly--we used a LOT of them!) and picked them up as soon as I called them to do so.

I think movers are much like other services--you get what you pay for. We had a good experience with them, but then again we do not have particularly valuable furniture or antiques, and we were clear on costs beforehand.

If anyone has any more specific questions, go ahead and ask!

No experience of Helvetia but we have just moved and used Total Reinigung for both the removal and the cleaning and they were brilliant.

Carlou, Did they provide an all in quote or an hourly rate? Were they also present at your handover? Thanks.

They provided a fixed price quote and the cleaners were at the handover. Nice guys and very fast.
