anyone know anything about this area in Oerlikon

hi there - I'm looking at basing myself in Oerlikon when I move over to work. I'll be working near Kloten Balsberg so it seems like a nice balance - <10 mins to work, and 10 mins into the city.

The places I'm looking are near Schaffhauserstrasse, near the train station. I've had a look around here on googe maps (the street view is AMAZING!), but am trying to get a feel from people who know here of what the area is like.

All I'm looking for is somewhere that's safe. Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, just wondering what people think of this sort of part of Oerlikon.

Thanks

Not overly exciting (a bit lacking in good local pubs, restaurants, clubs etc) but definitely a safe and decent area to live. There are plenty of local shops though.

Re: anyone know anything about this area in Oerlikon

Thanks for that. Looks like I'm going to be over Mon - Fri for the most part. Looking to base myself somewhere near work. Also will be swimming in the Hallenbad in Oerlikon. Probably only get into town once / twice a week at most.

Could be less unless some of you on here take pity on me and feel the urge to invite me out for a pint

Cheers for the help!

well you have a nice little triangle between the place, your work and the airport. Your travel times should be short and sweet.

You can always organise some drinks somewhere. You're 10 minutes from The Big Zee....

I live in Unterstrass and work in Oerlikon and wouldn't mind an occasional beer meet in the Oerlikon area ...

I live in Oerlikon, just off Schaffhauserstrasse, near the train station

I only moved there on Feb 1st, but it is very quiet and a nice place to live. Like everyone says there's not much in the way of bars, but there are a few restaurants about.

If you want, give me a shout too when you get here!

Re: anyone know anything about this area in Oerlikon

I've been living in the area (Schwamendingenstrasse) since October and quite enjoy it. Agreed the night life is not the most active, but certainly more lively than places like Neu Oerlikon. Lots of ethnic food available, though still looking for a decent sushi place!

Strongly recommend the market on Saturday's, well worth living in the neighbourhood on its own!

On the down side (or upside ) the only movie theater is of the erotik variety.

Hmm..maybe that's why my boyfriend was sooo keen on the area

Anyway, I got rudely interrupted (to do some work) through my last post, so I'll finish now.

The area is nice, there are a couple of gyms if you're would be looking to join one, plenty of supermarkets and shops and although the nightlife is quiet (but no big deal, it's easy to get to the nightlife from there), I did find one bar called Cheyenne that does cocktails and I like it there.
