Between flats (ZH)

Hi all,

I've been a lurker for some time, digesting all the invaluable bits and pieces from this forum. Thank you all for this!

Now I need some help
I've decided to move, but giving notice to my current flat without having another place secured did not appeal to me. So I got another lease, which started to run on April 1st and I still have the old contract.

By contract, I have to give notice 3 months in advance before March and Sept. 30th. So alas, I'm stuck with the old lease (unless I find another suitable tenant) until Sept. 30th. So far, nothing new to me, as had already I anticipated the possibility of paying 2 rents for 6 months of rent (first contract is cheap, it is not the end of the world).

Now to the not anticipated part:
The old flat is in Zurich and the new one is in Langnau am Albis (ZH), so I need to deregister from the Kreisburo in due time and register in the local Gemeinde in Langnau. The problem is that the Kreisburo doesn't want to deregister me because the old contract is still valid, potentially until Sept 30th.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem and can advise?
Should I seek professional help?
Am I so wrong to want to secure a good place before throwing the old one up in the air?

Thanks all,

Well, first of all, welcome

Not sure about the issue with the Kreisbüro. Have you asked them what to do in this particular case?

About your old flat, why not sublet it for these few months. That always works and saves you money. When I was looking for a short-term flat to rent last year, they were very quickly snapped up. Unless of course it's a ridiculously expensive one.

The other thing I was thinking, speak to your old landlord/agency. If you find a suitable new person to rent the place they usually allow you to get out of the contract at an earlier time.

Re: Between flats (ZH)

Thanks Scrambled. Sent you a PVM.

For the record, the flat in Zurich is 1-room, 28m² at Wollishofen.
I did not intent to make this post an ad, so if anyone else is interested, please send me a PVM and I will give more details. It is not in Homegate yet.

Thanks

Thanks Miss-Lizzy.
I will check back with Kreisburo in the morning, but I was already in debt with them as I was also asked for a document (other then the ausweis) which I can't find the whereabouts.

My assumption was that it should not be a problem to find someone to sublet within a reasonable time, and even if I did not, I was mentally and financially prepared. Not having a place to live after the 3 months notice was terrifying, on the other hand.

Re: Between flats (ZH)

Just to provide feedback.

Went back to the Kreisburo and a different person attended me.
No questions asked, deregistered in a minute.

Go figure...

Do you need some special agreement with the landlord about that?
