Buying a house, then renting out a small part of it

Hi folks,

Can anyone point me to a link, preferably on an official website, that can help me out here?

I'm an EU citizen, married to a Swiss, living with a B permit. I know that this gives me the same property buying rights as a Swiss.

However, the house we are planning to buy is built in such a way that 2 rooms can be used either as a main part of the house or could be rented out (they have a separate entrance and the door to the rest of the house could be locked shut).

So I would be living in the house, but also might want to rent out a part of it.

Is this allowed under the restrictions on use of housing for non-Swiss?

I have searched extensively but came up blank. Will really appreciate any help you can give!

Cheers

Carefully check your mortgage to make sure this is possible as banks (most of the time) won't mortgage a rental property.

Thanks, we'll make sure that we check whether the mortgage would allow this.

It should be OK as it would stll be you main residence.
Also make sure the renters have RC insurance and get a copy of it.

You can morgage a rental property (I don't think this is your case), but the banks like 35 to 40% down.
