Gardener in the Nyon area?

Does anyone in the Nyon area have a gardener whom they can recommend? Ideally English speaking, but not critical. We mainly need grass cutting and leaf pick up. Our landlord has been using someone who seems awfully expensive to us so we'd like to look into alternatives.

We are moving to the area next month and while I haven't made an official introduction yet, I would like to say "thank you" for the advice and chuckles I've received from afar (Boston), and I'm looking forward to participating as a local.

Thank you!

Gardeners are expensive here but the quotes can vary quite a bit. How much is the landlord paying?

Re: Gardener in the Nyon area?

Sorry do not have someone specific to recommend, but thought to say a few words. And yes, gardners are not cheap.

First, your rental contract may require or limit you to use the gardener of the owner's choice, as they have known experience with the place and/or proven level of satisfaction, etc. so make sure you have the right to hire your own if going this route.

Secondly, our neighbors use some hired gardeners and they do much more than just cut grass and pick up the leaves, ie. there are things you do not necessarily see like fertilizing, aeration, etc. as well as things like hedge trimming and tree trimming. So I would make sure that you are comparing the same things with what the owner has already lined up before just making a price comparison.

How is your portugese? Most gardeners around here are portuguese and speak portuguese in my experience, often with French as a second language. Finding someone English speaking is very uncommon. Be aware you will likely need to converse in French or portugese here with the tradesmen.

The landlord pays his gardener CH 500/month (some months higher, but it works out annually to this).

He has said we can look for an alternative, and Running Deer - thanks for the suggestion to make sure we are looking at all of the needs when comparing prices.

Wow...gorgeous work. As tenants, we'll just be looking for the basic grass cutting but the photos are lovely to look at. One can dream...

Depends on how many a hours a week you get. I get half a man day a week (four hours) for that and I can tell you, that's a very good price in Vaud. Some would try and charge you double that rate.
