I am living in Basel for sometime now and looking for an apartment in Basel Land.Can someone please tell me where I have to register if I shift from Basel Stadt to Basel Land.

Is it possible or it involves long process?

Your register at the Gemeinde building on Baslerstrasse (Get the number 6 tram to the stop where Baslerstrasse meets Steinbülweg and then walk up the road about 50yards in the same direction as the tram was going, it will be on your right hand side.

It doesnt take long to register, just remember to deregister in Basel Stadt first, this might cost 20CHF (seems to be a discretionary charge, some pay some don't), then just go to the Baselland Gemeide and show them the deregistration paper and about ten minutes later they will have you registered there, they were pretty picky about my health insurance cover when I did it so if you have a certificate make sure you take it with you. Two weeks later they send you your new permit and a bill for a further 65 CHF

Its fairly straightforward, you just have to be organised. First thing to do is de-register from the canton of BS which you can do online. They send you a statement, together with a CHF 20 orange payment slip. You take the statement to the Gemeinde of wherever you decide to settle in BL, together with your current permit. A few weeks later you should get your new BL permit, so you're now legally resident and registered in BL. If you have a BS registered car, its easy to get BL plates. Just take the BS ones off the car and hand them in at the Motorfahrzeugkontrolle in Füllinsdorf, They will send them back to Basel Stadt for you and issue you with new BL ones.

Your company HR will probably want a scan of your new permit, which will also probably trigger Payroll to adjust your witholding tax. The only major hassle is having to do two tax returns for BS and BL for the year you moved.

The good news is, you'll probably never want to move back to BS
