Suggestions for relocation agents

Hi everyone,
Could anyone recommend an effective but affordable relocation agent that they personally used and were happy with? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as we are struggling to find accommodation (as we were warned we would!)

Thanks again,
Charlotte

Maybe it would be an idea to say where you are relocating to.

True Longbyt,

but until there are more details, I'd suggest these people:

Crown Relocations
http://www.crownrelo.com/

Our company uses them to relocate people all over the world. We've tried a few others, but these guys are pretty consistent.

At least worth a call.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble finding housing. It is difficult in Zürich.

I am curious, how do you define "affordable"? Many expats here their employers paying the relocation fees and some have no idea how much their employers are paying. Might be more useful to you if someone actually replied and told you what you might expect to pay since it sounds like you have to pay this out of your own pocket.

I hope you find a solution.

Re: Suggestions for relocation agents

My company hired a relocation agent for me. The company providing the agent were http://www.anchor-relocation.ch

I found out this week that they'd invoiced my company in excess of 5,000CHF! But i'm actually thinking that they were worth it. Among what the agent did for me was:

- pick me up from the airport
- found a temporary flat for me to stay for when i arrived
- helped me to register with the local Gemeinde
- Made bookings to view 15 flats
- Filled in all the forms for all the applications for "permanent" apartments (we got a successful yes from the first two we applied for)
- Got me familiar with the transport system and way around town
- Arranged for the new flat to have internet, tv and phone installed
- and more!

I'm moving in to the new place next week and i'm so happy with her work that i'll probably take her out for a lunch!

I appreciate you don't want to fork out 5k CHF but since you're already here, you probably won't need the agent to do all the above for you.

If you're interested, PM me and i'll let you know the name of the exact agent who worked with me.

Regards
Kash.

Really That is an awful lot of money. If you had to pay that out of your own pocket, would you feel the same way?

my driver, who has access to the baggage area, will charge about 180 chf for this.

that is an awful lot of apartments to look at. Were you the only person at each viewing or were they general viewings?

the forms weren't translated for you? someone else completed them and you just signed them. What about the lease, was it translated for you before you signed it?

was this on the way to the 15 apartment viewings?

Swisscom and Cablecom both have websites in English where you can view the offerings and decide what best suits your needs.

I hope the agent be attending the handover of the new apartment and oversee the inspection. This is really important but if they already sent the bill, sounds like they think they are finished. So no settling in assistance either?

Re: Suggestions for relocation agents

Hi Mrs Doolittle,

Due to some extenuating circumstances i landed in Zurich the day before i started my new job. So while getting busy with the new job i have had to worry about very little because the agent was doing nearly all the work in the background for me.

Anyway, to answer your questions:
1) If i had to pay out of my own pocket, i'd think it was slightly expensive

2) c'mon, a temporary flat doesn't require just a few phone calls. There is thread after thread on this forum describing people's difficulties in getting a flat. I didn't have to go thru any of that headache.

3) I didn't speak a word of German when i went to the Gemeinde (well actually, my friend had taught me how to say "Good morning sh**head" in German when i was 14, but that doesn't count), so her assistance was quite helpful.

4) About 10 of the flat viewings were specifically for us, the remainder were general. She'd pick me up from work during lunch or after office hours and take me to each.

5) When we got the lease, we went out for lunch and she spent an hour going over it and she answer the questions i had.

6) Yep, she'll be there for the handover too. After that i'm not sure what else i'll need her for.

Bear in mind, that she has been helping me with this stuff on and off for the 8 weeks i've been in Zurich.

Kash.

Re: Suggestions for relocation agents

In one of the other threads, someone found a relocation agent for around CHF 3,000. Has anyone come across one for this amount? (given the above concerns, which I agree with, they are a little expensive)

Nb. I asked the above question of the other thread, but no reply. Maybe they are no longer checking englishforum
