I have been offered a job in Gland and am now looking at housing options in the region. I want to live in a town and so have obviously looked at Nyon but have been thinking about perhaps looking for a place in Geneva also, preferably within walking distance of the train station.

My question then is, do you think that a commute between Geneva and Gland is feasible on a daily basis or should I be looking for options closer to Gland?

Geneva to Gland, is either a 18 or 20 minute train ride, typcially direct train 2x per hour. Very easy and painless. Of course, add in commuting time to/from the train stations, typically this will involve more time with buses/trams/etc. It will likely be difficult to find apt. and workplace right at the trainstations, but good luck.

Thanks for the input. I suppose it all depends on whether I manage to find close enough to the train station in Geneva.

Is your office also close to the train station in Gland?

It's about a 10 min walk from the station. I just thought that there would probably be more things to do in Geneva for a young single person than in Nyon perhaps and that I could perhaps deal with a 40/45 min commute door-to-door from Geneva.

If you want to live in a town which offers something for the young and single you might also want to look at Lausanne as an alternative to Geneva. Gland sits between the two cities and the commute is just as easy from both.

Agreed. If young single person, Geneva or Lausanne are recommended, commute is easy from both to Gland.

I would live in Ge and work in Gland, Nyon is a cute little place, family friendly but if you are a cosmopolitan, urban and social type of person, you would find it dead after the few initial weeks. Lausanne is fun, college town, you will have to use French sooner, Geneva is more expat, has more things going on, as it is bigger, glocals is one party central. Both towns are different, Lausanne more local, Geneva is a hopping international city, just a few mins away from France, if you like to venture out. it is loud and gets on your nerves after while, though, just like any bigger cities. You could bike Nyon-gland, save time, but the roads are hell in the morning, people are still asleep.

Be warned that it is not easy to find accommodation in either Geneva or Lausanne. It is possible, but don't expect it to be easy or quick.
