| | How on earth is it all done in one day?
Ok, I apologize in advance if this is a daft question but it has me cultivating an ulcer just thinking about it!
We are planning on moving end of March 2011. The problem is how on earth do you manage to get all the stuff done in one day?
The notice period is up on the 31st march, so presumably we have to be out on the 31st?
Then the apartment has to be cleaned by professionals the same day and handed over the same day as the new tenants will probably move in on the 1st of April. Is it even possible to clean a place that quickly?
Our new apartment will probably also only be ready on the 1st for us to move is - so how the feck does that work? Where do we go with all our stuff till we can get the keys of the new place on the 1st?
I dont get it and its giving me sleepless nights. Add to this the fear of not even finding a new apartment in time with our bloody "L" permits we got even though my husband has a permanent job and I am growing a nice big ulcer!
Any help or insight appreciated.

you put everything in boxes in one room ready to go.
Then have the movers in early in the morning while you or the other half stays with the cleaning crew that comes in around noon.....
It s a day of stress and hell but possible....

Must we be out on the 31st or by noon on the 1st? Oh lordy it's making my head hurt! |

you have to hand over your old appartment by 12h at the 1st. The same holds for the renter of your new appartment. So move out at 11:59, drive to the new palce, move in at 12:01.

Exactly. Everything has to be packed up BEFORE the day of the move. Spend a few days with only the mattress & sheets out. We usually get cleaner in the day before & then finish up the day of, cleaning around or rather finishing up the cleaning around the movers. The movers really don't take that long. So get them in early in the morning. They will be there a 7am.

The next day will sort itself out and any problems thrown at you by the movers, new neighbours or landlord etc will be met by a sloppy grin by both of you.

You can also move the bulk of your stuff in advance to temporary storage at your mover. They can then bring it with them when they pick up the rest of your stuff, or on another day when it is more convenient. They are used to doing that.

On the other hand, if you are moving yourselves, rent a big enough truck a day or two before moving day, pack all you can the day before, park it overnight and finish the job next day.

Often I have been able to get keys earlier which alleviates some of the chaos. Even a few days early can make the difference. Moving locally is a big hassle and expensive.
If you have already rented an apartment here, trying to rent again shouldn't be so difficult even with an L. As long as you can get a good reference from your current landlord and haven't been given notice, you should be okay.

Sometimes you can get access to the storage area of your new appointment before the moving in date, so you can get some stuff over earlier.

Every apartment I've moved into or out of, I've been able to negotiate some degree of flexibility. The 'moving stuff into the cave' ahead of time has been very useful. Also, one apartment moving out of was scheduled to be re-painted and thus vacant for 1 month, so they let us stay an extra few days and this was pro-rated to get a daily rent fee which allowed a good degree of flexibility. If using a moving company, they can easily store your stuff for any length of time.
I would try to get as much info as possible from the landlord/regie or even neighbors of the place moving into as well as moving out of to see what kind of possibilities there are.

Hi all,
A quick follow up in case there are anybody out there struggling with the same problem.
We found a very good company who is cleaning our 4.5 room with quarantee for 1000chf and then they are taking our furniture on the 31st March and delivering it on the 1stApril. So at least that part is sorted.
If you would like their details let me know.
