Life around Zugersee

Hi all,

So, hopefully will be moving soon based on a possible job in Ebikon....so, I don't want to be too far from Zurich and was thinking.....Zugersee!!!

So what are the pros and cons of living in the area, other than rental prices and tax savings which I have taken into account already. I am looking for comments about what is cool and what is not cool about living anywhere around Zugersee, in any of the three Kantons that border it, anywhere from Zug to Arth.

Go wild, go crazy and who from this great site live out there?

Thanks.

Küssnacht am Rigi is lovely especially if you have children. Population around the 9'000 mark.
Positive side of living here: foreigner friendly and tolerant! Police are great - they even come remove the ugly spiders that occasionally trespass in the house, same goes for my neighbours all Swiss, quirky but wonderful. Every shop you could possibly need and a golf course, tennis courts, ice-rink - which in summer's converted into a go kart track - my favourite! 10 min by train to Luzern.
Negatives: The weeks leading up to Klausenjagen...

I have heard it is really difficult to make any Swiss friends...are you saying that it may not be so?

Do be aware that should the upcoming referendum pass, those tax savings would disappear. Meaning that, worst case, you could end up paying top rents and be hit with high taxes to boot.

If tax rates are a factor in your choice of canton/Gemeinde, it might be prudent to hold off on making decisions until after the 28 Nov. vote.

I found that it takes a while for the Swiss to get use to anything new, then it does not pose a problem My neighbours even learnt how to raise their arms and wave instead of the occasional nod! They even send little notes politely stating that they will have Halloween sweets this year Mind - kids did come back with plenty of toothpaste as well!

In our village the Swiss went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and we have some really close Swiss friends now, after only 2 1/2 years.
