Help ! pregnant and clueless!

Hello

I have just arrived in the area, but I have not moved to Switerland as yet but am staying over the border in france for the meantime. I will be moving to Switzerland once I find a permanent place to live.

I found out I was pregant a few days ago. Problem is that I dont know where to go in terms of a doctor etc e.g in order to confirm the pregancy etc. I am reluctant to got any doctor in France as I dont see the point as I want to have all my healthcare in Switzerland.

I am currently looking into insurance in Switzerland but I am very confused and frankly don't know where to start!

It seems from looking at previous posts that I will not be entitled to private insurance in Switzerland , but only the basic level. Can anyone please confirm this for me. Also what it the story about being able to choose what level if you are less then 10 weeks pregnant when you sign up for health insurance.

Another questions I have is about midwives/ obstetricians etc . My husband and I are hoping to move to the area between Morges and Lausanne, not totally sure as yet! As my french is miminal I will need and English speaking midwife. I would prefer not to have to pay extra to get this. Does anyone know what my next step should be?

As I mentioned I have only been in the area a few days, and have yet to move to Switzerland. I understand that I should be able to see a doctor in Switzerland. Can anyone tell me otherwise?

I welcome any information

Confused!!

Re: Help ! pregnant and clueless!

There is no free health care here.

You live in France currently, go to a doctor in France as in CH you will pay, probably in advance too.

Are you legally able to live in Switzerland, ie you have the right of residency either via your nationality, parents or by marrige ?

If you are entitled to live in Switzerland then you have to have compulsory health insurance, about Chf 250/month and you will only get basic level as you have a pre-exisiting condition.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Have a search through the insurance section for jenny, she specialises in finding health insurance for people & will be able to give you good advice.
