Does Swisscare basic insurance cover epidural cost?

Hi Guys,

Do you have experience with Swisscare for birth case?

Does Swisscare basic insurance cover epidural cost? IF not, do you know the cost at CHUV?

Best regards,
Qunzi

Yes, but cal your insurance and ask about the excess fee when it is a birth case.

Your basic insurance will pay for whatever is needed for the birth of your child: epidural, c-section, etc.

However, it will not pay for a private room or a birth in a private clinic. If you wish to have those, you'll have to pay for it yourself.

Yes, but call your insurance and ask about the excess fee when it is a birth case.
It's a bit of a given that basic insurances will be similar, however depending on who the provider is, there will most likely be small differences between them.

sometimes two providers will offer the same cover.... but with different limits, and applications to the excess structure.

As this is to do with the birth of a child, I wouldn't take any chances. If you call their number directly they should be able to provide you with all the necessary information you need.

As it has been said above, remember to detail the following points when discussing this on the phone:
  • What you are covered for
  • Limits to the cover (financially)
  • the application of the excess (or deductible) structure.
  • What is excluded in your cover.
It's an all too common problem when people say "I thought I was covered". Take the time to check it out. They will be more helpful than you think.
