Re: How do I file a Sanitas claim?

I'm with sanitas and only have address labels, nothing with tick boxes.

I pay the bill myself and then send the ruckforderungsbeleg direct to Sanitas. (keeping a copy for myself). Sanitas then re-imburses me to my bank account less the 10% contribution.
At most I write the policy number on the top of the ruckforderungbeleg, sometimes I've sent it with nothing - they can find you on their records with your name and address.

I have gone over my franchise every year here, as has my husband and they have never overlooked a bill that I have sent to them - they file everything and count it up until you hit the magic 'excess' number and then start giving you money back for subsequent claims.

Once you are some systems they automatically send the bill to the insurer (as Tom said, hospitals and also clinics do this). In this case Sanitas has paid the hospital and then debited the amount I owed them (excess or 10%) from my bank account.

They don't seem to make mistakes and remember to keep all your medical bills because I think some, if not all, can be deducted from tax (is anyone any more sure of this? We just give a whole bunch of papers to the accountant every year).

Why don't you phone them and find out? I'm with Sanitas and always get an English speaker on the phone.
Thanks, I’ll try again. Last time I phoned them, I muddled through in my rubbish German and came away a little more confused that before. I think perhaps that was because I started the conversation attempting to speak German. Perhaps i’ll start this one with… 'Sprechen Sie Englisch?’

You would normally receive two copies of your bill from the doctor. In all cases you should send a copy of the bill to Sanitas. All you have to do is to write your relevant police number on the bill and send it to

Sanitas
Service Center Winterthur
Konradstrasse 14
Postfach 299
8401 Wintherthur.

Small amounts should be paid by you and the bill sent to Sanitas. In all cases Sanitas will reply back to you with a notice showing how much of you deductible has been used up. For Large amounts the hospital or Doctor would normally send the bill to Sanitas and they will pay it and send you a bill for the excess amount owing to them. ( This is normally Debited or Credited to your account if you have an LSV set up.)

No no no you have it all wrong. Just go in speaking English. Don't give them a choice. Or ask in English if they speak English.

Don't forget you are the customer. You pay huge amounts of premiums every month to Sanitas. If they say they don't speak English, then suggest they find someone who does speak English.

There is a call centre in Lausanne as well if you know some French if all else fails.

Re: How do I file a Sanitas claim?

Thanks so much for your help terramundi, it’s exactly what I was looking for.
If I were to pay the bills using online banking, would I just include a print out of the payment to Sanitas along with the bill?

-Thanks,

Laurie x

Porsche I'll have to remember that- the customer is King, next time I'm in Pakistan. I'll insist on speaking French

thanks for the interesting and useful reply Terramundi. In order to save on unnecessary admin, our Insurance asks us to deal with our own claims until the excess is reached. It seems cumbersome to send invoices to Insurance to pay, only for them to bill you for the same until excess reached. (although it does 'buy' a few weeks' grace).

I have never had to provide them with proof that I have actually paid the doctors' bills. In fact sometimes in some of my more productive moments I've actually sent off the Ruckfordlala, had it prosessed and the reimbursement in my account before I get round to paying the doctor via the little orange slip. This is rare though as I am not usually that organised.

They do definately have people who can speak English but in my experience their English has not been as good as my French or German (this is no boast by the way) - so, if you do get an English speaker,be grateful and slow and clear.

Am I the only one who missed the i in Sanitas when reading the headline?

Haha.

I wasn’t missing the ‘i’ out when I started this thread earlier, but having written/read it so many times today, I’m now confusing my health insurance claim, with a letter to Santa….

Whatever you pay out of your own pocket (franchise, 10% of over that, NOT insurance premiums) and is over 4% of your brutto salary if you are taxed by source, you can deduct from your taxable income. If you are not taxed by source, you might be able to deduct more than that.

Re: How do I file a Sanitas claim?

I'm not with sanitas, but two questions:
1. Don't you have to send the originals to sanitas and keep a copy? My insurer expressly told me to send the originals and keep the copies for myself.
2. Isn't there a ceiling for payments out of your pocket, beyond which the insurer pays everything? E.g. in my case, after reaching the franchise, I pay 10% up to 700chf, after that they pay everything

Re: How do I file a Sanitas claim?

We are with Sanitas and it goes to Aarau not Winterthur, so maybe recheck your papers for an address to send claims to.
We used to have stickers just with a contact name and address to use on the envelopes but now I just write it, since our contact name changed.
We usually have to pay bills ourself and then send the original invoice to Sanitas and they refund the money (usually minus 10%) directly to the bank account.
Occaisionally bills are sent direct to sanitas by the Dr, and then we get a bill from Sanitas for the 10%.
I have never sent an unpaid bill to them to deal with.
You don't get any money back until you have spent your excess, but still send the invoices to them so that they can subtract the amount you have paid from your excess!
