You're telling us you've insured your IKEA furniture? You know, the stuff you can get for free on the EF?
No, on the contrary. I don't have a Hausrat Versicherung, only the private liability one.

Re: Am I the only one with no Hausrat Versicherung?

Hausrat is only needed if you are unable to handle the replacement cost of your belongings. It is a very calculable risk as you know the worst case scenario, loss of all your belongings. If it is just worth a couple of thousands it is mostly of no use.

Privathaftpflicht on the other hand cover damages that you cause to others, normally up to CHF 5'000'000. This could be for ex. you burning down a rented house/flat, having a skiing/sleding accident with someone else, etc.

Some of the insurances will also cover damages when you drive a third party car.

From next year on it will also cover any bike/micro scooter accidents as the Velovignete will be history.

The price: around CHF 100.-

Re: Am I the only one with no Hausrat Versicherung?

Was about to post a similar reply. House insurance is not necessary- a calculated risk- which might save quite a bit of money in the long run (unless ..). But liability insurance is an absolute 'must' imho - very cheap and could save you 10000s. I would also ensure that I am covered for water and fire damage- if your flat goes up in flames or is seriously damaged by a burst pipe if you have your own washing machine for instance.

Well, I see your point..but I feel that we're sorta responsible for ourselves. I own 2 bikes and have no "Vignette" on either one..I believe we're over insured anyways....the probability of something happening is rather minimal and if it weren't, the insurances wouldn't make any money to begin with.

In that case I hope you have not made a single iota of damage in your apartment or you have a really great landlord who will over look any damage you have done as this insurance also covers that. One landlord we had managed to screw us out of CHF7,000 for imaginary damage we has caused in just 9 month, the insurance covered all of it.

Re: Am I the only one with no Hausrat Versicherung?

A kid run into my bike once and broke both legs. There was nothing I could have done, but I was still responsible. The cost was huge- thank dawg my parents were insured. The kid recovered without consequences- but what if? We could have found ourselves with paying for compensation for life had he lost his leg/s or had brain damage due to the accident, etc. I had a terrible car accident when I was 19. One leg smashed to smithereens from knee to hip + several skull fractures- 6 months in hospital and 2 years to learn to walk again. At one stage they nearly amputated as the bone was not healing in one place. Fortunately I did recover eventually, but with a leg nearly 3cm shorter and bad arthritis in the knee and hip now. The friend driving the car was not properly insured, and begged me not to sue for damages. So I never received a penny, and now find myself with the prospect of having knee replacements- and no choice in surgeon, hospital, etc, as it is a pre-existing condition. (recently returned to CH after many years in UK).
Do you have Health Insurance or have you somehow managed to dodge that one. I have no problem with you not having house insurance at all, but liability just does not bear thinking about.

Yes, health insurance is compulsory.

That's nothing to do with health insurance. Health costs that result from accidents are for SUVA, and unless you are self employed, you should automatically have SUVA coverage via your employer.

Re: Am I the only one with no Hausrat Versicherung?

Yes it covered medical cost at the time- but didn't cover for compensation due to disability, lack of long term earnings, etc. I would have had to sue the driver for that.

Same would happen if a kid runs into your car, I'm sure. I can't remember exactly, I was 14 at the time. Perhaps they said I was going too fast, or whatever.

If you were going too fast, the kid would miss, no?

Because without a third party to witness the event (or video) it is nigh on impossible to prove who's "fault" it was.

Just like driving a car and running into the back of someone. You will automatically be guilty - even if the other person was reversing, unless you have actual proof that this was the case. When it comes down to you word against "his/hers" you'll remain at fault - basically for driving without due care and attention.

Legally responsible. If a car hits a kid then in the eyes of the law it's always the driver's fault by default.

Re: Am I the only one with no Hausrat Versicherung?

No, but we're talking about a kid hitting something...and therefore, it would be a whole different scenario. There is also accident reconstruction, which will help you figure out waht the cause of the accident was.
When you run into the back of another car, you'r obviously guilty as you're supposed to keep a safe distance. When a car backs into you, you're not guilty if you're standing correctly.

Why is it whenever LiB make money saving/making post the world jumps on his back.

Poor lad's only trying to eke out a living.

Looking that good doesn't come cheap, you know.
