You simply ask your Swiss health insurance for a EHIC card.

If you have the Spanish invoice, you might get the money back, maybe your health insurance, if an accident then maybe employer's accident insurance.

Many thanks Longbyt. I am a twart! I have the equivalent in French on the back of my progres insurance card. CARTE EUROPEENE D'ASSURANCE MALADIE. If I'd have shown them this, Then I guess I'd have got my ear done for free? Maybe the infection has spread to my brain?

If you are from Spain (or other EU countries). You can stay in CH with the European Health insurance card that you get from the "Seguridad Social" in Spain for free. You can be using this up to 3 years (I know people that used it longer) if you are:

a) Unemployed
b) Researcher
c) and some other exceptions that I do not remember

At the end of every year you send your medical bills to an address here in CH and they will refund everything from the first 90CHF.

I will said you can use this card until you get a permanent/stable job.
And no, you do not have to pay any money for the past. Because you were not require to have a swiss HI. The people that needs to pay for the past are the ones that ilegali did not have one insurance here. Anyway, I do not know how this will be as when I join a HI here in Switzerland they never ask me for any past information.

Anyway, I got an official answer from my insurer (ÖKK).
