Student health insurance

Hello,

I am a student in Lausanne. When I came here I presented my EHIC card at the assurance bureau and they exempted me from paying health insurance whilst I study. My belief is that the NHS will cover costs, but the question is what is the procedure? Do I have to pay up front and then claim it back? I am think about getting a (relatively simple) operation whilst here and want to know what I would have to do, because it is something I would be offered on the NHS back in the UK. I can not find any information anywhere about the particular situation of UK students in Switzerland.

Thank you

You should look at the terms of the EHIC - it does not entitle you to healthcare just because it would be offered in the UK. It only entitles you to care that would be provided by the state in the country you're in. So if your operation is not likely to be covered by basic insurance in Switzerland it is not likely to be covered under the EHIC arrangement.

Re: Student health insurance

Visited the thread but still looking for specific answer on how much will it cost to acquire insurance? I am currently applying for a visa through a company that serves Global Visas services. I just need some insurance for my travel if ever bad things happen during my journey.

Just edited the message for wrong input of URL. sorry I am not a techy person.

Re: Student health insurance

I'm not sure if this is the place you mean by GlobalVisas? You tried too hard with the links. Just copy the http address exactly as it stands top left of your screen, click on link sign just above your text which opens a neat little box, then 'Control V' into the field just as it stands. Then you can preview post and try it out before sending.

I've removed your 'links' anyway as they don't link.
