Health Insurance - Rejection of Cover

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has experience of being rejected Health Insurance?

My girlfriend who moved out here with me has contacted the same company I use, CSS, and discussed a policy. She arrived in CH 2 months ago with a pre-existing back problem following a big car accident back in October last year back home in the UK. As a result of this, my understanding is that she was asked to take extra coverage out and the application would go to a risk assessor. The original accident insurance claim is still ongoing and there are some legal wranglings taking place, part of which will involve my girlfriend being assessed for her injuries out here instead of flying back.

Anyhow, this morning a letter arrived from CSS and roughly translated seems to say that the coverage can't be supported. My girlfriend is going to call CSS to clarify exactly what the situation is, if she has basic insurance, is it just the extra coverage that's been rejected and if so, was it because of the pre-existing back problem (which is what I think it is).

Does anyone know what happens if you are rejected health insurance? Even basic is absolutely required, but how do you get around it if you can't be approved it?

Any thoughts gratefully accepted.

Thanks.

Alex.

As I understand it, they can't reject you for basic insurance, just anything you want that's supplemental to that, which they are free to reject you for.

Absolutely correct. Basic is granted and additional can be turned down for numerous reasons; they do not have to inform you why they are turning down the additional cover.

OP:

Do you have cover with CSS? i.e have taken the policy out and they have simply started the basic mandatory cover and removed your additional or have given you an option to take the basic or not.

If you PM me we could go though the case if you wished and could see if we can get any of our other partner companies to see if they would taker the cover...

I think the answer they will give is that you can get the basic but if you want semi or private then no. In my opinion the basic is very good and should still be far better then say the UK. A friend of a friend had to wait 3 years for a hip replacement.
