I `m so happy to join ur community.it`s so helpful to find someone answers ur questions about switzerland regulations.

In brief
I`m pregnant in the 38 week and suddenly in the follow up I discovered that the baby is not coming by the head (breech).The consultant prefer a c section as early as possible and I `v basic insurance with wincare.

My questions are>
1_ How does c section cost in Zurich University Hospital?
2_Will Wincare company consider this an emergency case and help me in payment or they won`t do so as I`m not in labour and the cs `ll be done for medical reason?


plz answer my questions as I`ve to decide within 3 days.........!

during pregnancy I asked them about the number of covered follow ups and every time I call i get a different answer from everyone and the same with drugs and I don`t want to calling them without asking someone else before as I feel that they just want to cover less if possible

Obviously I have no idea what your insurance company will cover. IMHO it IS an emergency, maternal and infant life at risk. Could you ask the hospital to enquire on your behalf. It is in their interests (financially).

Sorry to hear of your problem. Can I ask you not to use TXT SPK when posting as it makes it very difficult to understand and also we have members who’s first language is not English.

Your basic Swiss policy covers maternity in a maternity ward within your Kanton. See the end of this thread for more information. A caesarean is considered a normal part of maternity.

1. Usually around the 4K.
2. Wincare are legally obliged to pay the entire bill - which is assuming you are living in Kanton Zürich.

Is this is real? everything her is expensive and I want to know if you are sure.....

and I don`t think that wincare will pay all of the bill because what i understand from them before contract that they covers only normal pregnancy and normal deliveray needs.

The policy conditions and cover under the basic insurance are the same with all the insurers and they cannot alter them.
As I said, a caesarean is considered as normal and will be covered.
Hope this clarifies the position.

We were quoted 5K for a private doctor to do it. ie Private. I assume that given it takes some 10 minutes 4K should cover obligatory ie not private but it is immaterial anyway as Wincare are obliged to foot the entire bill. This is part of basic insurance. You are not electing to have a section you are being advised from a doctor that this is the safe way to give birth. That means it is covered period. Wincare will foot the bill and you will not even here anything about it...
