When my wife was admitted to the Uster hospital recently, we presented
the hospital our Swica card at registration upon arrival. Apparently,
they didn't check with Swica the level of coverage we had until the
6th day, the day before she checked out. The hospital mistakenly
thought we had halb-privat and had offered us that level of service
for the whole stay, all the while, my wife actually had the basic
coverage. Now they have billed us for the difference, and it's a
considerable sum. Clearly, we we feel is not our fault and are
looking for some advice on how we should proceed. Should we try to
work this through Swica, hire a lawyer, try to deal directly with the
hospital? Your advice is most welcome. Thanks.

My Family had a similar experience at Männedorf and we just told them to speak with our insurance company. Didn’t here anymore. But that was we got full private and we only have half private insurance.

Was this an emergency admission or was it arranged in advance ?
As soon as an admission is arranged the hospital usually send a notice to the insurer and, if is is semi-private or private, ask for a guarantee from the insurer.
If you only had basic cover and never indicated otherwise, it's the hospitals problem.

Totally agree they have made a major c up and try to pass it on to you.
