Car insurance - word of warning

Hi all,

Something that people should know about regarding car insurance and accidents with animals etc.

Under art 56. if you are involved in an accident with an animal (in my case a dog) then YOU or your insurance company are liable for 66% of the repair costs to your car regardless of the circumstances.

My car is really old and worth nothing here (RHD) so i just have the basic liability insurance, dog owner had a market stall at a xmas market, dog was not on the line and ran out into the road, dog was not really hurt but my bumber was damaged, owner put the dog on the line afterwards though

The personal insurance from the dog owner agreed to pay for the repair costs, that was all done then i get a bill from the garage saying i owe over 1000chf big discussions resulted and im now stuck with a big bill.

yes they agreed to cover costs of repair then backed out of it stating Art.56.

moral of the story: even if your car is a complete shitter of a wreck have liability and damage (tielkasko ?) and you will be held more responsible even through no fault of your own.

extreme situation: waiting at traffic lights, a horse on a rampage wrecks your car, car owner 2/3rds responsible for the damage costs.

think about it, be aware, and check your insurances.

i need a drink!

Re: Car insurance - word of warning

you should also be aware that if you are driving very slowly and carefully out of your driveway and an in line skater travelling on the sidewalk at maybe a speed in excess of the ROAD TRAFFIC LIMIT crashes into your car then YOU ARE TO BLAME............

ps, totally irrelevant fact , a guy i knew got radared at over 60mph on his skateboard in the UK years ago.

Speed limit does not apply to an inline skater CH, only motorised vehicles.
