Health Insurance Coverage

Dear fellow members,

Its a beautiful day outside

I am new to Switzerland and I am looking for the basic (mandatory health insurance coverage required by Swiss law for the Canton of Vaud) but I am not able to find out if the insurance provided by Swiss Global Insurance (Essential plan) or by Swisscare (Silver plan) can be used as the main (not supplimental) insurance to comply with Swiss laws for insurance coverage.

I emailed both the companies and never got a reply back which makes me believe that they have non-existent customer service (cost savings). The reason I am trying to get insured through these companies is of course the amount that I will have to pay to these companies which is about 177CHF a month (instead of 250CHF or more for the same coverage when I check Comparis.ch).

Also I am not able to find out if these are HMO, GP or Telemed?

Does anyone know the answer?

I need to get the coverage within a week so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
MM

Re: Health Insurance Coverage

Because they are not considered health insurers in the sense of the health care act. They offer mostly equivalent covers which fall under the insurance act.

Basically, some groups of people (foreign students, researchers etc.) can be exempt from mandatory coverage if they have an equivalent coverage (for example from these two insurers). But you need an exemption from the cantonal authorities.
