Supplementary Insurance: Possible with pre-existing condition?

Is it possible to get supplementary health insurance with a pre-existing condition? Does anybody have personal experiences, positive or negative, to share on this specific query?

Thank you.

W.

PS I reviewed all the forums but was unable to get a clear response. Thx.

It depends what the condition is, but usually unlikely. You can PM me the case if you like and I'll see what your options are.

Best,
David

In both of our cases, it was totally impossible. Even though my niece who had worked for the Insurance for 30+ years did her best to try and get it through.

And unlike Odile both my husband and I have prexisting conditions and we bot got it so it really does depend on the condition and possibly the insurance company too.

Possibly depends on age too, as we are both over 60.

BelgianMum, was the insurance arranged by your employer? They might be BIG customers and therefore able to tweek things a bit. For us it was a clear NO.

Re: Supplementary Insurance: Possible with pre-existing condition?

Usually you can get supplementary insurance but they will not cover you for treatment related to pre-exisiting conditions. This will revert back to your basic insurance.

You will be covered at the private level for non-pre-existing conditions.

Some conditions will exclude you altogether.

Re: Supplementary Insurance: Possible with pre-existing condition?

My husband just sorted out out health insurance for us both. He is with Visana as he gets a discount from his employer but they wouldn't insure me because I have high cholesterol.
I'm 42. I was gobsmacked. Doesn't half the world have high cholesterol ??

Anyway He sorted my insurance through Groupe Mutuale. I have no idea what this means in terms of what I get as I haven't looked at it at all...... so I can't tell you anything more than that...

Re: Supplementary Insurance: Possible with pre-existing condition?

It's not just pre-existing conditions that make it difficult to get supplemental insuraces - also BMI.

OH is a tad too short for his weight. He was able to buy supplemental insurance, but with a restriction - no coverage for any weight-related problems. However, once he lost the weight, certified by his doctor, this restriction was lifted.

Meloncollie, do you know which company allowed the restriction based supplements? I have also run into the same height issue recently.

Thank you!
Jen
