Is it normal for the basic health insurance to ignore your bills?
 

Ok, I submitted about 10 paid medical bills to my basic health insurance, and they have sent me a calculation based on only two.
They have ignored the other eight! Is this normal?? Do they split them into separate batches?

Is it possible you have a franchise (limit) up to which they do not pay anything? This would mean that only two were above the franchise amount... easiest just to call them.

The one's under the franchise get booked as well and you should get a confirmation in 30 days. 8 weeks sounds terrible, I hope the bills aren't too big!

It could depend on a variety of things....

- Franchise (deductible / excess) (although they should show you the explication that they've taken into account but not reimbursed you)

- Was it for an accident or for an illness?

- Is it covered by basic or complementary?

- If it's complementary, do I have the correct cover?

I think you're best bet is to give them a ring though....

They were for illness, no special circumstances, and all bills are covered under basic insurance. The franchise was covered by a few of these, so in other words there was no real excuse not to deal with them as I sent them in together.

In the mean time, they send me four letters, each dealing with two bills each. Why on earth they want to create that much paperwork for themselves I have no idea.

So Avanex has paid all the bills now but the process took over two months in total and involved added stress on my part due to their strange behaviour, so I cannot say I recommend them :msncrazy:

This has just happened to me. I sent in 8 or so bills and have just got paperwork in the post for two of them :eek:

What about the others! I need the money! Stressed that there is a problem with the others… but your experience has reassured me a little :msncrazy:

I miss the NHS in some ways!
