The maximum possible excess/deductible for cheaper health insurance

Hi EF,

I was wondering if anyone knew the absolute maximum exess that I can elect with any or specific health insurance company so my monthly policy would be significantly lower? I tried Comparis but the maximum excess could only be set as high as approx 3,000 CHF.

I intend to set the maximum excess possible as I don't intend to ever claim from the insurance company.

Any pointers or way around this max excess would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Kashim

Famous last words.

The one year you do this, will be the one year you break your leg, or are hospitalised. If you have 3,000 lying around (lucky you!), so be it, but I'd advise a compromise level which you could possibly afford to pay out of one month's salary if you needed to.

Perhaps nearer 1,000?

The maximum franchise you can set is 2500 CHF/year. http://www.eda.admin.ch/eda/en/home/...ns/inshea.html

Re: The maximum possible excess/deductible for cheaper health insurance

The long story is that my wife and I have a UK AXA private medical insurance and we don't want to cancel this policy in case we go back to UK and have difficulty reinsuring as we've made some claims with them and AXA will not cover for any pre-existing conditions if we were to take out this policy again. Therefore, our plan was to have the cheapest Swiss health insurance just to shut my Gemeinde up and still have the UK AXA Worldwide cover and use that as the main policy.

I've made some calculations and it seems that it's cheaper to have the AXA Prestige worldwide cover together with the cheapest Swiss health insurance than a good quality Swiss health insurance on its own.

My Gemeinde has given me a grace period until the end of 2012 to have a Swiss health insurance after serious begging and pleading although they understand that our existing UK AXA Prestige worldwide cover is far superior than any Swiss health insurance cover could provide.

I can always beg and plead with my Gemeinde again but I think they won't extend the grace period and therefore I think I am out of option but to concede and either have my existing policy with a cheap Swiss one or an expensive Swiss cover.

You might also want to check with AXA whether the policy remains in force if you are no longer UK resident - most insurance doesn't

The AXA policy definately covers treatment in Switzerland as my wife has claimed for pre-prengnancy and other costs so far and they are also aware that we live in Switzerland.
