Health insurance for postdocs

Hello - I have a question on behalf of my husband. Do you know which of Tradiconsult or Swisscare is the better choice for foreigners who may want coverage for overseas travel?

Thanks!

Hello Kate,

I am not too sure if as a postdoc, your husband is eligible for either of these insurance companies. I would strongly recommend CSS StudentCare. I also assume you are living in Lausanne right ?

Cheers,
H.

Postdocs are eligible for Swisscare.

Re: Health insurance for postdocs

Perhaps a stupid question, but what makes CSS better than for instance Tradiconsult or Swisscare?

Re: Health insurance for postdocs

When I was a student I went with swisscare. I read around and they seemed to have the best feedback then. I never had to claim but remember having to make a few changes and they were always pretty efficient and were able to deal with everything in English.

Re: Health insurance for postdocs

Swisscare (and others) seem to no longer offer cheaper medical cover for postdocs - does anyone have a recommendation for other suppliers (other than just searching on Comparis of course).

Taken from Swisscare FAQs

No more eligible from 01.01.2014 : POSTDOCS & RESEARCHERS : This is a regulation change of the Swiss Federal Council in the law KVV-OAMal art. 2.4. This is not specific to Swisscare but to all insurance companies who was offering the student plans to researchers and postdocs. For questions, contact the cantonal authorities.

Re: Health insurance for postdocs

I've never had any problems with CSS Studentcare - started to cost a bit more when I hit 30 (still loads cheaper than traditional insurance though).
