car written off after accident

hi

does anyone have any experience of this process, i.e. how long i can expect it to take, how do they calculate the value of your car, personal injury compensation.
definitely 3rd party fault, admitted.
it made me laugh that the police officer attending the scene of the accident, was going on holiday for 10 days so we have to wait until he returns to proceed with that side of it! and of course no one else can help in his absence.
only consoling myself that injuries were more psychological than physical and that my 8 month old baby in the car at the time was not hurt .

Re: car written off after accident

How old is the car and did you own it from new?
What insurance do you have?

I waited about 12 weeks for a claim some years ago but it was complicated.

I owned my car from new and it was just over 6 years old. I got the blue book value for it....which was good.

In the end, it's the job of the insurance company to ensure you're put back in the position you were before the accident. So get searching for similar models with similar specs/km/etc and print the pages off. You may end up in a discussion with the insurance company - don't be afraid to counter their first value if it's wrong.

And good that you and the baby were not harmed. The main thing comes last

The insurance will pay up quickly, by involving the police it may go to court before it's concluded.
I doubt you will get any personal injury compensation, you have accident insurance from work that will cover any injuries & loss of income.

Re: car written off after accident

With Zurich it took 3 weeks to the the cheque. No police or personal injury involved...

Ah I missed the personal injury compensation bit.

Hahahahahaha. Insurance might cover treatment for injuries but as you have none......

If you're looking for compensation for being bashed into, don't hold your breath.

Re: car written off after accident

Took insurance about 3 weeks for our check to come. Our car was 5 years old and we have full collision coverage which pays a bit more than blue book value.
