Re: Insurance Coverage for Pregnancy and Birth

I have lived in Switzerland for about 9 months and have the basic insurance. I don't qualify for the private insurance unfortunately due to a history of cancer. I am now cancer free and my husband and I are hoping to start trying to conceive soon. I wanted to make sure whether or not there is a 1 year waiting period before pregnancy under the basic insurance? Meaning, do I have to be insured a full year before becoming pregnant?

Many thanks.

Nope. For basic cover, there's no qualification period.

By the way, before you start trying to conceive, you should visit your gynaecologist to make sure you're up to date on any vaccinations and that he/she can advise you on other issues beforehand (like taking your prenatal vitamins, exercise, etc.)

Re: Insurance Coverage for Pregnancy and Birth

Hello, I have a small question regarding pregnancy and health insurance.

I have the basic insurance with 2500 CHF franchise. I know that insurance will cover a certain number of visits to the gynecologist during your pregnancy. On the other hand, I also read that the costs will be covered from week 12th of pregnancy to week 8 after delivery.
I am very early in pregnancy and would like to have the first visit around week 7. Does that mean I have to wait until week 12 for my first visit to the gynecologist if I want it to be covered?
To me this it a bit confusing.

Thanks so much!!

Re: Insurance Coverage for Pregnancy and Birth

Thanks for the info. It seems that a routine examination before week 12 is covered. After week 12 visits for complications and other medical issues are also covered. Is that right?
