Insurance Query (regarding smear test)

Hi all,

I've done a search but couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

I went for a smear test in April. Within a few weeks I got a bill for 19 CHF from the hospital for processing my results. About 6 weeks later I got a bill for about 220 CHF from the doctor for the actual test.

I only sent these off to my insurance provider (ökk) in October . Within a few weeks I recieved back information regarding the 19 CHF bill (saying they won't cover it).

I am still waiting for news regarding the 220 CHF bill. So my query is this:

- Am I right in thinking that the insurance company should cover the cost of a smear test?
- Is it normal for it to take so long to be processed?

I only have the basic insurance, with a high excess.

Re: Insurance Query (regarding smear test)

You have a high excess? So as we are in December it doesn't really matter does it?

Re: Insurance Query (regarding smear test)

If I understand the system here correctly, they don't pay til after your excess is paid, even for standard yearly exams. Unfortunately, I messed up my knee skiing so my high excess was met. It will be interesting next year to see what gets covered assuming no more dumb accidents! (well, any accident at all)

It is hard to keep straight, as we have had insurance in the US, Germany and now here and somehow they all work a bit differently...

Re: Insurance Query (regarding smear test)

Thankyou for your helpful reply Drmom.

That is what I am confused about- I thought that smear tests were covered regardless of the excess and if that has been met, but it seems I thought wrong...!

Hope your knee is healing well!
