Re: Very cheap Swiss health insurance for students & researchers

Marketing graphique? Maybe or maybe Assura are more open than some companies?

In terms of reimbursements, let's take Assura then as an example.

They have 2 offices around Lausanne.
Their head office and administration centre is in Pully. However, they deal with reimbursements, bills etc. in a different building in Le Mont-sur-Lausanne.

People who are insured with Assura receive stickers with the Mont-sur-Lausanne address on them. That way, you just stick one to an envelope and send your bill(s) off.

However, there are some people who send them to the Pully address.

I think it's fair to say that the person who sends it directly to the correct address will be reimbursed before the person who sends it to the wrong address, no?

From the feedback I receive from people, from company policies and meeting a lot of people that work in this business, I can assure you that over 30 days is a long time to wait to be reimbursed.

Most companies should reimburse you within 2-3 weeks at the latest.

Youtubeman, I see you're based in Lausanne so maybe you speak French?
This was on the TSR show TTC (toutes taxes comprises) recently and is an example of Assura's willingness to be open about their reserves, premiums etc.

http://www.tsr.ch/tsr/index.html?sit...h;vid=10685329

(if you want to skip the beginning, watch it from 2.20 onwards)

This is not a marketing strategy. TTC is a consumer magazine program (a kind of televised version of Which? magazine I suppose)

Lol ... a very good marketing graphic... Seriously... 14 days is if you have perfeclty fullfilled your claim form or internet form, a simple illness and if you have a big chance with the manager of your medical files... But it is more realistic to say 30 days ... and more in lots of cases...
What is your comment based upon ? Have you personally had experience of submitting many claims to different Insurers ?

I’m insured with the KPT/CPT and, unfortunatley, over the last two years have had 2 or 3 medical bills every month and I get paid within about 14 days every time.

Re: Very cheap Swiss health insurance for students & researchers

Hi, in fact, I had lots of troubles with a company. But I agree that It was a little bit complicated with a pregnancy case. However, the company was very unprofessional (or the agent). And they don't answered to my questions. I was very worried and anxious and had in fact financial problems. It was not really a happy time during a pregnancy... I think for simple bills, 14 days up to 30 days is the standard. Recently I just send a bill to my current insurer and I received the reimbursements within 19 days.

Are you insured with one of the cheap companies for students and researchers as their claims procedure tends to be different to normal companies ?

Re: Very cheap Swiss health insurance for students & researchers

Good day!
I have read almost all posts, but already have questions -
I am 25y.o., going to Switzerland to get master degree in Januart 2010. I am pregnant now and looking for medical insurance for different consultations, etc. but I do not have money to pay bills and wait for reimbersments! I am a grant student..
Please give me advise, what shall I do? what kind of med. insurance should I buy? which one pays all bills at once??
Thank you in advance!

Re: Very cheap Swiss health insurance for students & researchers

HI, I was in your situation. The students plans dont covers previous conditions or if you are ill or pregnant. You can apply a state insurance in Switzerland and you dont have to pay first your medical bills. Go on http://www.comparis.ch and find your most appropriate healthcare. You must entered the zip code of your swiss city and also your birthdate. Then choose the most affordable.

[QUOTE=mark;619]Since I am not a foreign student (well I am foreign, but not a student) this is of no benefit to me. But it does seem like an excellent deal if you are a foreign student studying in Switzerland.

http://www.tradiconsult.com/

This is a great option should my subsidy not be approved...if I can switch.

Re: Very cheap Swiss health insurance for students & researchers

Attention ! read the warnings about this insurance that you can find on other treads. Seems not be so beautiful as you said. Also on comparis.ch you can read not very happy information about this company. There are lots of other companies for students... or also state insurance companies. www.comparis.ch or www.bonus.ch has informations for health insurance and also find on the internet special foreign student insurance plans in Switzerland. There are other options that you can find in other treads.

Tradi consult. I read in other treads and also on the internet that you can have lots of troubles. Customers who was rejected and was forced to pay retroactively medical bills for several thousands CHF. I suggest to go on www.comparis.ch or bonus.ch

Re: Very cheap Swiss health insurance for students & researchers

Hi! this has been so helpful. Thank you!

I still feel like I don't know the final conclusion. Is it better to go with one of the plans on comparis.ch or to go with swisscare (it seems much more affordable!).

Thanks!
Jesse

Just to clarify, the premium is 80.- / month and the annual deductible is 100CHF.

You can also choose to have a deductible of 500CHF making the premiums slightly cheaper.

N.B. The premium is 80.-/ month if you're under 30. If you're over 30, you can still get this student insurance but the premiums are higher though still a lot cheaper than the standard LAMal/KVG

Normally, yes, they'll increase the premium.

Re: Very cheap Swiss health insurance for students & researchers

Hi all,

Thanks for the very useful thread! For the record, I used to be a foreign student in Geneva, with a B permit, and I was using GoldenCare without problems. My status has recently changed and I am a post-doc working for a UK university, based at CERN. That means I am under a carte de légitimation, and that the LAMal requirements don't apply to me (as mentionned by the GoldenCare person on the phone). So I am now shopping for insurance for Carte de Légitimation holders in Geneva. If any of you has useful input (like possible companies and deals), I'd be happy to hear it. For the moment, I know that GoldenCare can take me back, for about twice the premium I used to pay as a student....

In the meantime, I wanted to inform you about Swisscare. I tried to switch to them, given that they provide insurance also for foreign researchers, but they inform me that I couldn't join them due to the time I spent already in Switzerland (I arrived in Sept. 2005). This is unfortunately not mentionned on their website, so beware when comparing prices!

Hope this helps, Andrée

Really?! I'm very surprised at that as the amount of time you're in Switzerland doesn't have any bearing on whether you can have this insurance or not.
You can be a foreign student for years and remain on foreign student insurance.

When did you try to change over to them?

I'd like to share something about TradiConsult (maybe especially applicable to PhD living & working in Kanton Aargau):

I'm a PhD living in Kanton Aargau (AG) and insured with TradiConsult (TC) since January 2005. The health department of Kanton AG (HDAG) gave me a 3-year exemption from the general Swiss health insurance (Befreiung von der KV-pflicht in der Schweiz). After this I have to go to a Swiss general health insurance company. So far I have not much to complain about TC. They paid my medical bills alright.

My colleague from France who started her PhD in September 2006 (she also lives in Kanton AG) went for Swisscare initially, but then came the round letter earlier this year stating that Swisscare is not accepted in Kanton AG anymore. So she tried to change to TC, but did not get an exemption from the HDAG either. The HDAG said they "recently" put TC on their black list (something about money problem between TC and kanton AG, I don't have the details, though).

I'd recommend any PhD who is considering to get a cheap Swiss health insurance to confirm first with the health department of his/her respective kanton before signing the contract. It may be a hassle to get the money back from the insurance company in case an exemption is not granted.
Do you have a contact of HDAG? I need to apply for another insurance since Swisscare is not accepted in Aargau.

If Swisscare is not accepted in Aargau, then chances are no other cheap student insurance will be either.

If one is accepted, they all are ; if one isn't accepted, none of them are.

It depends on the canton and not on the insurance company you use.
