Supplementary insurance when changing insurance company

I would like to upgrade my insurance to include private ward. I have been insured by the same company for a number of years.

I have been to hospital quite a number of times for check ups for various minor issue. Hence I am not sure if they will be willing to upgrade me. Do you think I would stand better chances switching to another company? Would somebody willing to insure me only for the supplementary part?

Also, it seems from a check-up that I may need a preventive surgery at some point. Would the current company with the upgraded new supplementary insurance or a new company cover it if I decide to go for the surgery.

Any company suggestion?

Re: Supplementary insurance when changing insurance company

You can get supplementary insurance from another company, if you are young enough. Every company is
different, you need to ask them for an offer. I can't find any info on supplementary insurance at www.comparis.ch

Re: Supplementary insurance when changing insurance company

I think when applying for extra supplementary coverage, you will have to fill out a questionnaire, regardless whether with your own or a new company and then the insurance companies will decide whether or not to accept you, or whether they will accept you subject to certain conditions. It may or may not make a difference whether you stay with your current company or try with another.

For your preventive surgery, you will have to check the terms of the contract. Sometimes you need to be insured for a certain period before they will pay out - e.g. for maternity benefits, it's necessary to be insured for 9-12 months before they will pay out.

One other thing to consider, if you currently have supplementary insurance - are you insured for a minimum period? - often it's 5 years, so if you cannot cancel you may end up paying twice. Maybe staying with your current company will allow you to upgrade, if you can't cancel the current contract.
