Under 25 or Above 25 - How is it calculated?

Hi all,

As the insurance premium in Switzerland differs if you are above or below 25, I would like to know how do they calculate your age?

If I am turning 26, October this year, would I pay the premium of 26 years old, right from January (the insurance statement says so). I couldn't find anything in their terms and conditions for this.

For 10 months, it would make a considerable difference, so would appreciate your remarks on it.

Enjoy your weekend,
Wildie

as is usual here, you are classed on January 1st of each year to be the age that you'll end the year on - so you're 26. Don't you pay cheaper insurance when you're older? Or are you talking about health or something?

yes, it's basic health insurance and the supplementary insurance. Premium for both of them is different if you are 25 or 26.

I still find it ridiculous to start paying the premium of Age 26, right from January. I am still 25 till October 2008.

Re: Under 25 or Above 25 - How is it calculated?

It is counted from the 1st of January following your 25th birthday. i.e. your 26th year (as stated above by Lob Rockster).

Those born towards the end of the year lose out.....
Unfortunately there's no way of them calculating premiums in direct relation to people's birthdays. Imagine doing this for 6 million people?!
They had to come up with some ruling, so this is it.

The worst is for those turning 19 where your premiums go from about 70.- per month to 170.- ! (or more depending on where you live)

Look on the bright side, at least your car insurance will go down
