whats the cheapest Health Insurance available?

My wife and I have just arrived in Zurich to live and work.

Can anybody recommend low cost health insurance perhaps that perhaps offers English speaking customer service ?

Re: whats the cheapest Health Insurance available?

Start with www.comparis.ch. You can choose English on there to do your searching and compare prices.

We have Assura. Pay for entire year and get 2% discount. I think it's around 2,100/2,200 chf for year.

Re: whats the cheapest Health Insurance available?

Welcome to Switzerland! Comparis (already recommended by someone in this thread) is a great place to start! If you or your wife are working in academia, at a research institution, or in certain other categories of job you might qualify for swisscare http://www.swisscare-intl.com/ by far the cheapest health insurance I've been able to find.

Good luck!

Re: whats the cheapest Health Insurance available?

You'll find most companies have English-speaking agents. However, to my knowledge the only company who does written correspondence in English is Swica, and they're one of the most expensive for premiums.

Definitely www.comparis.ch is the best option. Bear in mind that the basis insurance must have the same conditions for every company, this is by law. The differences are in the services that you want on top of the basic.

I have CSS since one year and so far so good.
Cheers

Re: whats the cheapest Health Insurance available?

I have Avanex, in the Helsana Group. They supplied written info in English and have English customer service folks who were very very helpful. The basis insurance price is in the ball park of the rest. With a large excess and some other agreements to call and let them know when you go the the Dr. (not in emergencies) they give a discount. I am pretty sure this is the same with all basic insurance from what I could tell. I decided on Avanex verses my husband's insurance company because of the English friendly documents/speakers.
Having just come from the US, the price is a bargain!

Re: whats the cheapest Health Insurance available?

Be careful you compare like with like. I bought a policy recently and found it had some exclusions not common to more expensive policies.

Re: whats the cheapest Health Insurance available?

If you don't mind me asking, who was the company? I haven't had to use mine yet so really only have the sign up experience not the usage and most important experience.

Re: whats the cheapest Health Insurance available?

Do most people do Telmed or Premed for the discount? Has anyone ever had problems with these services? I am told that I do not have to follow their advice and can still go to the Dr I want to and when I want to. Is this accurate?
Thank you,

Re: whats the cheapest Health Insurance available?

Sanitas has English support, but, it cost me 280 per month, 4 years ago. Sanagate, has no English, much less customer service at all(although you can get them to find someone there to speak it with you), and that cost me 170 per month.
