Reporting accident for accident insurance

So I had a minor accident where someone opening a door slammed it into me as I went to open it from the other side. Went to the doctor about it who said I was OK and didn't need any treatment. Now I wish I hadn't gone, as this accident insurance business does my head in.

I reported it to my insurance who said they are sending me a form to fill out. I have no idea what this form will look like or what I have to write on it. I'm just wondering: because someone else was implicated does that make things more complicated? I have no idea who this other person was. I'm wondering if I should just say I walked into the door myself (though, of course, sounds like an excuse from a DV victim...I'd have to rephrase it!) Or does it not make a difference?

Re: Reporting accident for accident insurance

If you work, you can just give it to your HR department. Arrange a quick meeting with them and they will go through the form with you.

I had to go through a similar thing a few years ago when I broke a tooth and basically had to implicate my own little boy as the "perpetrator" , but it's just that they need a full picture.

Don't worry that you don't know who the other person is, it won't be needed (unless it was an assault, maybe).

If you don't work and its your own accident insurance, just fill it out with the details you have. You can't do any more than that. If they have any further questions, they will contact you.

For my most recent claim on accident insurance, the physio made a complete balls-up of the process and they ended up getting themselves into trouble with the insurance company. It all went on over my head so I wasn't involved at all.

When my son broke his arm at school, we just wrote "Broken arm while at school".

It was accepted without demur. I'm personally convinced that the more complicated a form, the less likely it is that anyone actually reads it. It's probably just cheaper for them to pay out.

It's really easy. Just tell your employer, they will report it to your insurer. You will probably get a short questionnaire that just asks you what happened and if you work for any other employers.
