Health insurance subsidy if you earn too little?

Probably not the right forum, as most of you are having problems living on CHF 200k+, but I heard that SVA subsidies health insurance if your declarable annual income is under CHF 37k. Is this correct? and what about declarable assets? is there a limit?

Re: Health insurance subsidy if you earn too little?

Actually, I think it's higher, with subsidies depending on income.

Don't know about the assets aspect.

I'm not sure what the exact limits are (think it may depend on family status as well), but my experience a few years ago was that if you're potentially eligible they will automatically send you a letter and an application form.

Re: Health insurance subsidy if you earn too little?

I remember using an on-line calculator for Basel - maybe something like that exists for your region? Otherwise, here is a helpful post from Jenny:

More infos here:

Not only your income but also 20% of your declarable assets are taken into the calculation. Being single, married or with kids changes the limits for eligibility.

AFAIK -- I'd rely on the calculators linked -- it's basically if your premium exceeds 8% of your taxable income. In theory, you're supposed to receive the form automatically if you were eligible.

AFAIK this varies from canton to canton and they all have different procedures. In ZH you get a notice based on your taxes, in Bern you have to apply for it yourself etc.
