Jeep soft top cover torn apart

Hi there

I have a Jeep with a soft cover and it just happened that yesterday someone tore apart one of the windows (plastic) to steal one bag that was inside the car (yes, beginners mistake).

Anyone knows if insurance covers that kind of damage? And which insurance would that be: car or 3rd party?

I'm going to the police today to file a complaint so that it's documented it was a theft.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Damage to the roof of the Jeep will be covered by your auto policy, provided you have more than basic liability coverage. Your auto policy may also cover the bag; otherwise, this is likely covered by your contents insurance.

If you have only liability insurance for the car and no household contents insurance, then I'm afraid you're out-of-luck.

Re: Jeep soft top cover torn apart

when I had my first convertible, my insurance guy added 5'000 extra cover for it - it was an electric hood and could be pricey to repair.

I'd expect your insurance to cover the repair of the roof, no idea about the stolen contents.

would you like me to ask them? I'd need the police case number

Stuff stolen from the car are only covered on the car insurance if it's not yours.

Re: Jeep soft top cover torn apart

Thanks a lot guys for your replies.

I took some more time to read about this stuff and found out that I'm covered under the Teilkasko against Diebstahlschaden on my insurance and the Teilkasko has no Selbstbehalt.

Does that seem reasonable?

Luckily it's only the back window of the car. The police said they will send it directly to the insurance so they didn't give me any number

The bag and the jacket belonged to two friends of mine who were together with me.

Re: Jeep soft top cover torn apart

I know this is a little late to reply but here are the case details (in case someone falls into something similar

- My Vollkasko insurance covered the repair cost as a teft (replacement window) without any payment of the franchise whatsoever.

- My friends got a reimbursement from their 3rd party insure when presented the police case to their respective insurances.

Cheers!
