In case of fever? [does my health insurance cover me?]

I called my Health Insurance company, they told me that if a get the fever and go to a local doctor, then I will have to pay it... but isnt taht already covered by my insurance? I mean, that is "my doctor"... it is not a specialist !

Perhaps they mean that the deductible would apply. If the bill is less than the amount of your deductible then you would have to pay it.

Do they charge a lot just for a cold or fever?
How much, not the exact figure, just an order of magnitude...

less or more than 50...
less or more than 100...

I live in an Aargau small town.

What do you mean by "the fever". Do you mean you just have a slightly increased temperature and feel a bit off because you caught a chill or a cold in which case your pharmacist can give you something to do the trick. Or is it something more serious - like a high temperature of 102/3++ with other symptoms like sweats/nausea/inflamed glands/ears etc in which case a visit to the doctor may be in order? Usually common sense tells you which way to go.

Won't get much change out of CHF 100. Not worth it if all you have is a cold.

Re: In case of fever? [does my health insurance cover me?]

Marzullo,

the terms of your health insurance will probablly define an annual limit of expenses before which your insurer pays, eg, it may say that the first CHF1000 (for example) of expenses are down to you and then they pay the rest.

If you're generally healthy than an occasional visit to the doctor and a couple of prescriptions per year will be down to you to pay.

You can pay higher premia and reduce this 'excess'. For children it's generally set at zero.

Hope this helps

They don't charge you for a fever or by the kind of disease you have.

They tax you by the time ( 5 mins is the minimum at around 50.- ) and if they had to employ materials or run tests etc.

I wouldnt normally go for a cold, but last year I was worried it was getting nasty on my chest after about a week and had to travel. Bill was about 140chf incl blood test, 6 days antib., and 2 things for coughs and to help clear lungs. D

Fully agree. If you just have a cold then go to the chemist and ask for Neo Citran. That generally does the trick for me. It's a hot lemon drink with all that you need to shake off the snuffles.
