If you're moving to Neuchatel you will have to get a Swiss health insurance I'm afraid, the canton doesn't accept foreign insurance policies even for students.

Hey, if you're student, it's ok to have european health insurance. I used to have it (3 years), but actually I haven't had opportunity to check how it works if you need medical care. But it's possible to stay with this kind of insurance during your studies! Only if you really need medical care all the time it's better to choose for example Swiss Care (it's for students, and it costs ca. 80-90 CHF/ month).

If you had read my post above you would see that the OP is moving to Neuchatel and it is NOT ok to have any international health insurance here. Swiss care is NOT accepted by the Neuchatel authorities and Neuchatel is not the only canton who don't accept it.

As with many things this depends on the canton so what works in Zurich may not work in Neuchatel and vice versa.

If you maintain residence in Italy and continue to qualify for Italian insurance, you do not need anything else in Switzerland. Your Italian health insurance provides the same benefits as Swiss insurance would for the duration of your stay. This works if you are a student staying temporarily.

If you were to get a job in Switzerland, you would need (to switch to) Swiss insurance.

Simply send the copy of your italian card and an attestation d'études from your university to the cantonal authorities as suggested here by the university itself.
