I've also had some messages sent to me today about increases:

And a letter:
Have you noticed the skilled trick in that letter?
If you live, said, in Vaud until 2013, then you have overpaid and they should refund you.

But the refund conditions are: you need to live in one of the canton which overpaid to get refund in "June"; refund which will be spread in the next 3 years.

A funny situation: change Canton now, to a Canton which is due to pay more and that's it you've been nicely Switzerlanded:

Not only you have been overcharged in the previous years, but also you won't get the refund and have to pay more in the next 3 years.

Nice!

I'm sure it was too simple to consider refunding immediately the money overcharged + interests, instead let's skim the dumb citizen even more.

Whether the campaigns were underhand, dishonest or whatever does not alter the fact that the premium increases were known to the voters before the vote. Whether they chose to read them and were influenced by them in the way they voted is something we will never know.

Talking to my neighbors, most voted against the initiative despite knowing that premiums were set to rise, despite some level of disatisfaction with the current system, for the simple reason that the pro campaign did not make a convincing economic case. My inference, again based only on casual conversations with Schwyzer voters, was that the no vote shouldn't be seen as an endorsement of the status quo, but rather that while most acknowledge that the system needs tweaking the initiative wasn't seen as quite the right solution to the problem.

----

Despite the premium hike I'm still not upset at the cost of healthcare under Swiss insurance. Rather, my primary complaint is lack of access to quality care.

Edot- as you are satisfied with your health insurance, I think you are totally right to leave well alone, especially as you face a small increase compared to other areas.

For us, an increase of about 10% is grounds to consider change.

What are the planned restrictions on doctor choice?

Grundversicherung Kanton Bern: 2500 CHF franchise; Hausarzt Modell - 8.4 % more! (238 -> 258 CHF). Krankenkasse: KPT. My wife has 300 CHF franchise and will have to pay 20 CHF more as well.

About "premium is increasing by end of nov... 2014" I assume they mean it will be announced before end Nov but implemented in 2015?

Just got my increase notification, under 1.5%

Re: Health insurance for 2015

Theoretically the compulsory health insurance BVG (Bundes Versicherungs Gesetze) is separated from the optional supplementary VVG (Versicherungs Vertrags Gesetze) insurance, and may be offered by the same, or by separate companies.

However, it has been known for people to change from their standard insurance company (BVG) and then afterwards find their old company has cancelled the supplementary (VVG) policy.

As you get older you will find it harder to find the supplementary insurance cover because you are a bigger risk & with no history. So maybe consider that situation before changing insurance companies. I would recommend only changing if the new company accepts you for both the BVG & the VVG.

Keep quiet about your investment ideas to avoid driving the market up

Sorry, you said 2.5% not 10%, hence my comment above. However, as Sbrinz says, there is absolutely no obligation for another insurance to accept you for any supplementary insurance- and if your have had to make wide use of the health system- another insurance will probably refuse to cover you for supplementary.

When we arrived here, due to age and pre-existing conditions- we were turned down point blank for any of those- and could only get basic- which means doctor choice and hospital choice is very limited.

It appears that our children's health insurance costs will go down..
Have not recieved the updated adult ones...

Plus, a test to the cost-benefit ratio will be the two emergency hospitalisations and one ambulance event...have not seen the bills yet...

So nothing new then. We've never had supplemental. I thought you were talking about the basic. I've had good success with doctor choice just with basic, so it can be done, but might depend on where you live, so I have to disagree with you on this to some extent.

Re: Health insurance for 2015

Regarding the over payment of the health insurance, I read the news in 20 minutes that there should be a discount in the June payment slip of 119.70CHF!!! I didn't believe the thing, since I am not really used to receive money back here (specially money you didn't ask back). But today I received the payment slip for the next months from Assura, and the one for june had a discount for 119.70CHF!!!

Re: Health insurance for 2015

We received all the info at the end of 2014. ZH belongs to the Kantons where folks over-payed in the previous years. In my case I should receive some money back with / taken off my June invoice. Yet they still raised the premiums for 2015. Pardon, but I am not overjoyed.
