Any reduction for Chomage/RAV people to buy mandatory health insurance

Hi, just a small question:
for someone already in Chomage (German: RAV) with poor pay, are there any reduction on the mandatory health insurance? If so, how can I claim it?

(currently insurance cost over 200CHF/month with CHF2500 deductibles)

Many thanks.

Re: Any reduction for Chomage/RAV people to buy mandatory health insurance

The health insurance companies don't give a discount. But the municipality (Gemeinde) or the canton can subsidise the premium. They do so by paying a small slice of the premium on your behalf, directly to your medical insurance company, and then you have to pay the rest. There are different levels of subsidy, depending how low (on their table) your income is. Like so many things, this can be different from canton to canton.

The vocabulary in German is "Prämienverbilligung" (premium subsidy).
I hope that helps you to find it for your municipality/canton.
If you can't find the name of the office, then you could ask your medical insurance to tell you (according to your address) which government department is responsible.

But if you are unemployed and on RAV and on a permit, be aware that this seems to be classified as social aid per another thread. As such, it was reported that the person had claimed social aid when it was time for permit renewal, and this could have very adverse impacts.

Renewal of permit denied - what now?

Thanks a lot for your info. I will completely forget about the subsidy.
