Hello everyone,

According to the previous posts , I have understood that I can initiate my health insurance in the first 3 months after arrival to Switzerland. My question is related to possible outcomes of starting my insurance at the end of first 3 months . Do I have to pay back anything for this 3 months without insurance ? I would be glad if anyone can explain possible disadvantages of starting my insurance at the end of this time . Thank you.

Ps: I will start to work as non- eu for the first time in Switzerland
Mine was not predated, but I had travel insurance which covered me for that period.

Re: Health Insurance FAQs

Hello to all,

I am having a situation with CCS Insurance; in April 2019 I´ve made a contract with them for the health insurance, but meanwhile I´ve changed of canton and as the price was no longer interesting I asked them to cancel it.

Meanwhile I´ve made a new insurance with another company, and now CSS is claiming that it doesn´t matter that I changed of canton, as the contract stays valid!!

So now I have 2 insurances to start in January; can somebody help me on this?

Thank you and regards,
Nupe

Re: Health Insurance FAQs

Is this basic? In that case the second insurance would not be valid if the first one was not canceled successfully.

Re: Health Insurance FAQs

I thought the whole point of how it works is that you have until the end of November to determine what you want to do next year, so I don't understand CSS's claim.

Have you asked your new company what they think about this?

Re: Health Insurance FAQs

Change of canton does not give you a special right to cancel the insurance.

For basic insurance you can cancel each year before November 30th (also applies if the premium stays the same!)

Cancellation deadlines for changing insurance provider:

To cancel for 31 December, the cancellation letter (by registered mail) must reach the current health insurance provider by 29 November or the last working day of November, respectively. This is the final deadline, no matter if your new premium is higher, lower or remains unchanged.

Re: Health Insurance FAQs

Hi, perhaps I have a silly question I have the Assura, Médecin the famille, but on the application form I have chosen a medical center instead of any doctor name. Can I go to any doctor at the medical center or maybe it was an error and I should provide them with a doctor name first? I sent a letter to Assura but they are not responding.

Reminder to everyone to get switching now - and before end of November. I've got mine down from 245 to 217!
