if you are a very low earner, or low paid with a family, the canton will pay you a subsidy on all the family's health insurance premiums.

Search and you will find: http://www.englishforum.ch/insurance...e-subsidy.html

I think it is too late to claim for 2014, but you can definitely claim for the year 2015, the decision is based on the amount of salary you declared on your tax return in 2013.

You can get advice from your Gemeinde, if you were not here in 2013, then you might have to wait.

Depending on your permit situation, there could be a down side to claiming according to the experience here: Renewal of permit denied - what now?

prämienverbilligung?

Hello guys,

I'm a phd student in AG canton. Unfortunately here no student reduction applies to KVG health insurance. So I'm wondering if prämienverbilligung works for me.

does anybody (phd student) have an experience with that?
Geenrally, what are the pros and cons of applying for prämienverbilligung?
I know some pointed out that this may overshadow residence permit.

Re: prämienverbilligung [Health Insurance Premium Reduction]

Hello all,

I have a question about the Prämienverbilligung table shown in the pdf here -> http://www.asb.bs.ch/krankenversiche...billigung.html.

I know that the numbers shown there are after the deduction of social contributions (AHV, IV, etc..) But should I also deduct the tax there?

thanks,

Eligibility and the amount of the subsidy is based on taxable income as per your most recent tax assesment.

No, actually it looks like in Basel eligibility is based on the netto income, after deduction of AHV/IV/EO and ALV, and before deduction of quellensteuer.

In Zurich (and maybe where you are from) eligibility is indeed based on taxable income, after all other deductions you would make on your tax declaration. If you pay quellensteuer your taxable income can be simulated by the city health services (gesundheidsdienste) where you apply for a subsidy.

Re: prämienverbilligung [Health Insurance Premium Reduction]

Anyone who may have gone through a permit renewal process and had received health insurance premium reduction prior to applying? Any successful result?

It was mentioned here (https://www.englishforum.ch/permits-...hat-now-5.html) that it's not considered a social help. Then why is the fill-in-form issued by SVA (Social Institution)?

If I fill in the form, thus requesting, will that endanger my permit renewal?

The post is from 2014, so keep that in mind. If anything, I'd say the rules for permits are getting more strict as time goes on.

When you apply for an insurance subsidy, you're basically saying you don't make enough money to support yourself, which may not look great for a permit renewal.

Re: prämienverbilligung [Health Insurance Premium Reduction]

Had health insurance subsidy for 2 years whilst on a permit B and it had absolutely no effect on conversion to an early permit C a few years later, so clearly it is not always something that is taken into consideration. This could vary depending on which canton you are in.
