A bit of an update and a few more questions:
We applied for Swica insurance in the middle of December and forgot all about it at that point.
In January we got the letter back saying they'd tried to contact us but not been able to so we would have to give them a call.
Apparently my insurance had been declined but they couldn't tell us why, but the agent we were dealing with was going away on holiday so no one else was able to even look at our case, eventually after a lot of pushing I got the answer that they were just missing some info and that our own agent could sort it for us when she got back.
When she got back she just went with the line that she can't tell us why it was declined, she even denied the info from the other agents we'd talked to.
When she got back we asked her to go ahead with a basic insurance application, again, 2 weeks later she gets back to me asking me for signatures and everything.
3.5 months in we're no closer to being insured and I guess I'll probably get put on a random one
