Apply to different companies?
My husband was rejected, because of a knee ligament injury….. which had gone via accident insurance and was nothing to do with health insurance, personally I think they just don't want anybody over 30.

please advice | | | | | check with your employer.
most big companies have agreements with insurance companies that give you a small discount and, more important, they will have to take you with no conditions.

Did they say why they rejected you? If you have pre existing conditions they will often ( but not always) refuse you depending on what the condition is.
Different companies have different criteria so as others have said you should try a different company.
I was accepted with a pre existing condition after providing them with additional information from the specialist I was treated by in Belgium.

I was rejected by CSS when I first arrived in Switzerland most likely for the reason that I had selected a low deductible (300 franchise). When I requested further details regarding my rejection, the insurance agent explained that often when a newcomer selects such a low deductible, it raises flags that there is a pre-existing medical condition which was not disclosed (this was not the situation in my case).
Ultimately, I ended up with Swica at 300 franchise with no issues. The service I've had with Swica is really good (but more expensive). Ultimately, as I'm an overall healthy person with no medical issues, I ended up increasing my franchise.
Hope that helps.

As far as I know companies are some how are obliged to accept you for the basic one.

Swica rejected me for supplementary insurance but I still took the basic with them. No problem with it (so far!) and all communications to date have been in English.

You are correct, they are obliged to accept you for basic insurance so I had the option to take basic coverage but as I'm a risk averse person, I wanted add ons for the supplementary insurance. |

I'm afraid that they are totally entilted to do so, without having to give reasons. In our case, it was due to age and pre-existing conditions, and I'm afraid there was nothing we could do. Basic cover is very comprehensive, so it is not really a problem. You could ask them their reasons, but they do not have to give them to you. As said above, other insurances might take you on at a price, or exclude certain things. Don't be tempted to hide pre-existing conditions, as they would accept you, take your premiums, then refuse to pay at a later date.
You may prefer not to divulge here, but what extras did you want to cover in particular?

So you would suggest trying other companies.

Unfortunately, once you've been rejected by one company, it's hard to get into others as well. Mostly, they flat out ask you if you've ever been rejected by another company. Unless you lie (which can have bad consequences), that's the end of the road.

I know a chap who'd had all kinds of surgery before he came here. He managed to get some additional cover (exempting a whole range of conditions!) through a broker/agent.

You might try contacting EF member Jenny; she is an independent agent.
