Life, Disability & illness cover

Hello EFS members.

I am new to switzerland, TI, Locarno and I currently still have a policy with my insurance provider from the country I came from - This was for the period while I understand the Swiss system.

To briefly explain what my current policy and cover entails:
  • Life Cover - This is simple and straight forward - I die, pays out a lump sum to my beneficary
  • Disability Cover - If I am involved in an accident and I either become partially (Certain Degree) or completely diabled then the cover pays out a 100% lump sum or a certain % according to the degree of disability
  • Dread disease / illness Cover - Pays out similar to the Disability but in the case of illness - Cancer, Heart Attack etc.
I have checked with me Emplyer and I do have the std accident cover which pays out 100% 3 months salary - This is great to assist with any costs that my medical insurance might not cover or any unforeseen costs but this does not assist in providing a income shouls I not be able to work from any longer as a result of the accident.

I have spoken to a broker that assisted me with Medical Insurance and he has prepared a quoted for only life cover and he seems a little unsure (Due to the Minimal Italian I speak and English speaks) what I am actually looking for.

Basically, I am looking for a policy similar to the one I currently have - Should anything happen to me that I can still provide for my family or purchase a house etc.

If anybody can assist with suggestions I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for reading my VERY long Post
Kind regards,
Viking123

Re: Life, Disability & illness cover

Why not stay with your current insurer? with the same or reduced benefits?

Re: Life, Disability & illness cover

Is this not covered under your pension provision at work? Disability and illness where you can no longer work would mean you get a pension as would your spouse should you die (survivor's pension). Also Pillar 3a and 2 if you can organise those?

I don't know if the Swiss do any other kind of cover apart from life cover otherwise.
