Re: Scratches on car - Will Insurance pay
Just adding a funny story about the ridiculous prices over here...
I have also got some scratches on the right side of my car, very visible and deep ones, clearly due to vandalism.
My insurance does not cover the repair. (I wanted to keep insurance costs at the minimum level...)
So I brought the car to the car showroom where I bought it, and asked for a quotation of the repair. They took me to a bodyshop, saying they always work with that garage, they work very well, reliable, bla-bla...
The guy from the bodyshop checked the damage very thoroughly, then sit to his computer and prepared an offer for me. The offer was 1350 CHF to fix the damage. (Both doors had to be re-painted due to the scratches). And I even had some discount...
I bought the car for 17 K CHF, so I found it a bit too expensive. I told him I'd think about it and come back to you in case I'd like to take it.
A few weeks later I had a planned visit to Hungary (by car), so why not to get this work done over there.
I brought the car to a bodyshop with a good reputation, their offer was 150 CHF ! (of course the price was presented to me in HUF, but for the sake of comparison converted to CHF)
So I did let them repaint the doors. They did a perfect job, the car now looks like as it was new.
Now I am thinking of going back to the car showroom and let those guys know, that for that price I was offered I could afford to drive 1400 km, stay in a good place, eat in nice restaurants, drive back to CH, and still I have not spent that much money!
In addition to dental tourism, maybe it makes sense to talk about car repair tourism..?
