Scratches on car - Will Insurance pay

Hi all,

few months ago I bought a new car and did a Vollkasko insurance but without Parkschaden.
I park my car in an outdoor private parking spot in front of my house, and one day I noticed some weird scratches on the roof of my car which I am sure I haven't dont myself and have no idea where they came from..
I thought of vandalism but it's a bit weird that they are on the roof and not on the doors..
Apart from this, when driving on the highway, a small rock was cast most probably on the wheels of another car and hit my door leaving a dent..
I was thinking if I can claim money from the insurance for these 2 problems.
I read around and dont have a clear understanding if Vollkasko covers such damages..
Vandalism is covered by Teilkasko but there are some specific things covered like slashing of tires etc but scratches are not in the list..
I was trying to come up of how to present the scratches so I can claim

Can anyone advise on the insurance would pay for such damages and how do I need to present them to raise the probability of claiming the money. For example if I say that I drove under a tree (which would mean it's my fault) would be more effective than saying I dont know how it happened?

Thanks a lot for any suggestions.

Re: Scratches on car - Will Insurance pay

Your first sentence answers your question.

Your last 2 sentences consist of committing a crime called fraud so I will refrain from answering that

A car will get damage driving it. Accept it . Best you can do is keep it polished and waxed and keep her pretty as can be. But you will get damage if you use it.

As my MIL found out - unless you have Parkschaden voll-kasko will not pay out for scratches - her car was keyed!

Re: Scratches on car - Will Insurance pay

What you need to think about is who pays the insurance premiums ?

The more you try and fraudulent claim, the more the premium rises and thus the more we will all pay as you were too tight to take parking insurance.

The scratches will have been caused by a cat. They like to leap on car rooves. Our windscreen is often covered with cat paw prints.

Depends on the car - some paint (or more importantly the top coat of laquer) can be pretty vunerable - but that is more classic car territory than modern.

However on any "modern" car the top laquer cost is usually pretty resistent to anything a cat is going to throw at it. Regular rubbing against low tree branches might cause it.

It does remind me that I have a scuff on the "toy" to try and buff out this weekend

If your deductible is more than cost of repair? Live with it, or DIY

You would have to have parkschaden coverage with your insurance to be able to cover the repairs. I know this because I have this and just repaired some minor park scratches last week.

Re: Scratches on car - Will Insurance pay

My car was badly keyed once and the insurance told me that scratches were not included despite me having Parkschadenversicherung. "So what does it cover?" - "More direct damages, like broken windows, lights, mirrors etc..."

I also have a rather small scratch on my roof - I believe from the previous owner when inflating the tires and simply pulling the hose over the roof to the other side of the car.

Re: Scratches on car - Will Insurance pay

If you don't know for sure its key scratches then don't present it to the insurance as that. The thing is key scratches is vandalism and certainly not classified as parkschaden (parking damage). If the scratches look like they could have been caused by someones shopping trolley then that is parkschaden.

I had a scratch along the side of my car but had no idea how this happened. It could have been a shopping trolley glanced it or it could also have been somebody passing the car with skii's that touched it.

I just called the insurance and told them I had a parking scratch on the car but didn't know how it happened and it was fine with them.

When I buy a car, I make sure it already has some scratches. This way I spare myself the pain when I add some new ones.

Were the scratches not caused by your friend loading skis to the roof rack? Claim from their 3rd party insurance!

I have a 5cm scratch on my roof from same (i think) .. Can i say my wife did it and claim

Tried a tube of black colour DIY repair stuff and it made no real difference. My scratch has gone through to the white underpaint, on a black car it's quite obvious.
